Q: Which model is this? the most up-to-date lw45 with 3d discs? my research suggests there is an upgraded lw45 comfort plus effective 2020with 3d discs.

It is the newest LW 45 that has a digital control panel in place of the older LW 45 which has push buttons. We have both the older 45s and one new one that has two disc stacks with waffled edges. They appear to be more efficient than the older disc stacks that have straight edges. We also have a LW25 that only has one waffled disc stack. They all are easy to clean, no paper filters, just rinse, wipe and fill with clean water. Really like both and will. Buy again!

Q: How do you know how often to empty it and add the water treatment additive? It says 10-14 days, but how do you know if 14 days is too long?

I've been using Ventas for 20 years now. How I determine whether it's time to change over (empty, wash the unit, add new additive) is how "dirty" the water looks. This depends on how much use, how much dust in the room. It does however always seem to work out to 10-14 days. I push for 14 days, just so I can use less additive, but if it's dirty I'll do it sooner. One will get a feel for it.
