Every year we received a dark rum cake from an old family friend that has since passed away, so I found myself wanting a rum cake to the point I thought about baking one myself, the idea being I'll mess up the first 10 batches but eventually may bake one that's just okay. I decided that wasn't an option and to try the Mamajuana Rum Cake--if I'm being honest, just because the name sounded cool and anybody called Mama Juana is definitely not going to mess up a bake. I was actually surprised how moist this cake was; it's as if they baked it first, then filled up a bucket with rum and let it soak in. So much rum was packed in there, I worried that I might get drunk. Of course you won't get drunk, but it's that packed with rum flavors. I definitely wouldn't get mad if someone sent me one of these for birthdays, holidays, and Christmas. This is one tasty cake; I'm going to order another one just to go sit with the neighbor and have tea and rum cake. Highly recommend--I'm definitely a fanboy. My next move is to try some of the other flavors.

I am a diabetic. And I don't know if I should ever buy this cake again. Because you can't just eat 1 bite. You can't just eat 1 slice. You actually sit there and almost eat the whole entire thing. Even though you know it's going to put you in a diabetic coma, because it's so freaking delicious. You can't stop eating it. It is impossible to put down the spoon or fork or whatever it is you're using to eat it with. I used a spoon. Cause this is what I had on me at the time and I'm telling you, it is so freaking good, I didn't know what to do because I was not expecting it to be that moist and spongy and full of flavor I mean, you could taste the rum, the coconut, the. I am buying these for Christmas and giving them out as Christmas gifts. And I think I'm going to buy 2 for Thanksgiving and put it on the Thanksgiving table and serve it with custard and put a bowl of custard in the middle and the people can put the custard on their cake, but you don't even need that because it's so. Delicious II believe if I take this to Thanksgiving. Everybody's gonna be fighting over who gets another slice. Not not who gets a slice or not. Who gets another slice? Cuz? You're never satisfied with just one slice of this cake. I am not kidding if you love ROM, and you love coconut. And you love spongy, moist softness. That is not too sweet, but not under sweet. It's not over wet, it's not under, it's not dry, definitely. It's, I'm telling you it was perfection, perfection, perfection, perfection. Except if you're diabetic, because I did suffer from it and um. I would do it again knowing it's going to make me sick because it's that delicious. 🤧 i wish you made bigger ones for bigger families to share in holiday times because is this one? It's not big enough, it's just not big. Enough please make it bigger.

It is the perfect gift! Great taste-definitely rum flavored, but not overwhelming. Beautiful packaging makes for a lovely gift of 6 cakes. One 4 oz. cake is enough for 2 people. Very well wrapped so they will stay moist for several months. Gave as Christmas gifts to 3 different friends. They were as pleased as we were!

There are six different flavors of cake, and I found the rum content to be quite strong. However, it was enjoyable, and I particularly liked the original butter cake among all the options. I was skeptical about these to send for gifts so I bought a package to try. I'm a believer ! these are great tasting rum cakes. they are individually sealed, and each has its own little box. they are moist and you can pick up the rum smell when you open them. I'll be sending these as gifts to more people. I'm extremely satisfied and don't understand how anyone could give these a bad rating.

There are two types of rum cake - Tortuga and not Tortuga. I only eat Tortuga. Even the bad ones are better than the others. They're fresh, moist, and generally delicious. Once in a blue moon (I buy these sporadically) I get one that's a bit older and they tend to be a bit drier when old, but still better than other rum cakes. The original flavor is my favorite followed by the pineapple, keyline, and chocolate in any order. They're all good though. There's a vanilla one that's pretty good too, and also a coffee one. Honestly I've never had one that I didn't like. Be aware that these are the tiny ones (4oz).

Small, about the size of a donut but much thicker, seriously it’s pretty tasty but tiny especially for the price.

Super moist cake with strong rum and subtle banana flavour. Yes it’s pricey for its size but it is absolutely delicious so worth it as a treat. I would only recommend to people who like rum cake as it is an acquired taste as the rum is very dominant. I love it!

. I have bought this cake, plus the Cinnamon Raisin one, annually for over a decade since discovering them in the Caribbean. I’m not a lover of Christmas cake and this is my alternative. It is seriously yummy as it is, or even more so if slightly microwaved and served as a pudding with coconut ice-cream or double-cream. This year, due to the pandemic and being unable to visit people and definitely NOT wanting to queue in the Post Office but to keep as safe as possible, I decided to do all my Christmas gift shopping on-line. So amongst my Christmas List, on Saturday last, 5th December I bought eight of these Tortuga Rum and coconut cakes and had each shipped directly to the recipient. (I’d already bought mine!!) A few days previously I had paid posted their Christmas Cards with an added pretty typed message inside it to let them know that a ‘Taste of Sunshine’ was on its way to them. I also added a personal gift tag!! Most arrived the next day, Sunday (with AmazonPrime); a couple are arriving today, Monday 7th (depending on Post Code) with one shipped to Northern Ireland arriving tomorrow (Tuesday 8th). Not bad bearing in mind I ordered on a weekend. So far they’ve been received very well as I’ve already had a few “thank you” WhatsApp video calls. I might well repeat this again next year - even though the Covid-19 situation will hopefully be sorted and not be relevant. So ....... a very wonderful cake and very much recommended. .

When I ordered these using Amazon Prime in December 2024 I already knew that there was a delay in delivering the cake. This was fine with me as I didn’t need it until my husband’s birthday in February. Happily for everyone the delivery arrived on the exact date that Amazon had stated on the website. So we opened it and although we were tempted to just eat it in one go, we were strong and only had a small slice at a time. It’s simply delicious. The perfect combination of chocolate flavour with rum in a moist cake. It is lovely on its own or served with cream or warmed and served with ice cream. Would recommend it as a treat as it’s not cheap but definitely worth it
