I am using my Synology NAS as the recording location for my home video surveillance system. The application called Surveillance Station is free, but only includes connections for 2 cameras. The license pack increases the recording functionality to either 2, 4 or 8 additional cameras. What you are buying is a license number for your extra cameras. There is no additional software to install. The NAS must have connectivity to the internet; Surveillance Station calls home to Synology to validate the number you just entered. It took me about 5 minutes, including the time to log into the NAS. Easy!

Very costly, almost 600.$CDN to turn them on . But does what u expect and more .

I'm running a DS1821+ and a computer with a 1060 graphics card, I'm mentioning this so that you can compare to your setup. Adding my 9 cameras to my Synology NAS was something that I had researched for some time. I looked at the features of the Synology software and my cameras. So things that I think many who consider expanding their camera licenses wonder is how will this affect performance. My setup is that the cameras are the ones that are in control of triggering motion detections. This works great on the cameras that have some kind of human av vehicle detection - but on the oldest ones that just trigger on montion detailed tuning is needed and I will be replacing them in the future with new one that can trigger on human detection. The reson I'm not doing motion detection on the NAS is that I found that it does in fact consume CPU resources. (Which I much rather want to have for my containers and virtual machines). But if you would have <6 cameas on a DS1821+ I think you would still have enough power to do other things. On the computer side that I use to watch a live view of all the cameras I have enabled GPU acceleration for the client. It used up around 30% GPU time deconding on my 3 generations old graphics card. I would expect the impact to be much less if you are using a newer card. So basically the license pack is easy to use and the thing to consider is how your system will handle your setup. I'm having my video stored on Micron PRO SSDs (with high endurance rating) so my normal harddrives are not involved with the video survelience. If you don't have cameras and are looking at this iten at the same time you consider buying cameras - consider looking at Synlologys cameras where the camera licence is included - meaning that you will not need additional liceses if you use their brand camera. But for me since they don't have models with color mode during the night they are not an option for me.

Utilizzo ormai da un anno il Survelliance System con 7 telecamere ed è davvero affidabile, mai un probelma. È vero le licenze sono care, ma è un costo una tantum che dura per sempre e per come funziona vale secondo me molto più di certi servizi a pagamento periodico.
