comfortable and warm
These mittens replace my favorite pair of ragg wool mitts that I lost during my recent move.Lucky me! These are softer and more comfortable than my old mitts. I hate to say it, but I'm a little glad I lost my old mittens. I'll say it again: these are softer, more compliant, and just plain old more comfortable. These are nice and warm, but *only* if the wind isn't blowing. This is not a flaw: all wool mittens let wind through and these are no different. If you'd like to use such mitts in the wind (and wet) I'd definitely recommend getting an overmitt which is intended for this application (they also work well for down mitts if you are headed for really cold, windy weather.)

Winter hiking gear for White Mtns.
If your hands sweat on ascents, then go into stage 1 frostbite when the going gets easier, welcome to my world. That's all changed for the better now. These 4 ply mittens are a key component to a reserve glove system in 0F and below windchill environments.I use an XXL unlined chopper mitt (about $20) as a shell on size 8, 4 ply mittens. (Treat shell with with snow seal!) Nice fit, no squeeze, and not excessively bulky. The combination provides superor warmth to re-warm hands while winter hiking in NH White Mountains. (Too hot for ascents). I put hand warmers between the shell and mitt at the start of a hike. Otherwise, you will suffer until your hands can warm up the mitts from whatever is the outside air temp. After your hands get comfortably warm, you' might find youself switching back to gloves and sharing the reserve system with a buddy in cold-hand agony.Size per vendor instructions was good. Might seem a bit tight putting hand in, but fits well once on. After using many glove/mitten "systems" over the years, this is the only one I trust to re-warm my hands and stay out of the painful freeze-thaw cycles.

Warm and great
Minnesotan here. Can confirm these are incredibly warm and comfortable. They are my outdoor mittens - hiking, snow blowing, etc and my hands end up if anything warmer than they were before. Not good for driving as they don’t grip well. Cannot beat the warmth and no liner needed.

Very warm mittens
These mittens are extremely warm. They do not fit as well as my Fox River Double Ragg wool mittens. I followed the instructions for sizing, but they are a bit on the large size for my hands. However, they work well to keep my hands warm and dry. I'll keep them and I'll enjoy them in very cold weather.

Old world quality construction mittens
I wear these mittens anytime it’s very cold and windy which is most days of winter in upstate NY. They are fantastic, thick, quality construction and so dense as to be practically windproof. They are able to be worn under shell mittens covers if you wanted more protection for them, but it isn’t necessary as I think they might be indestructible. If you are looking for mittens made of natural material instead of petroleum I wouldn’t hesitate a second to buy these. The fit is great if you measure hand length as they recommend. They fit close around the wrist and are long enough to go under coat sleeves. These mits are worth the price especially if you compare to synthetic mittens from the big outdoor retailers.

Simply the warmest and best made wool mitten made, well worth the price
Simply the warmest and best made wool mitten, well worth the price. No complaints, I have used them twice backcountry skiing in 20 degree weather with no complaints around comfort and warmth. The last pair of these I've owned are still going pretty strong after 30 years.

The boiled wool is perfect for keeping heat in and cold and wet out
Its very hard to find quality mittens that are hardy enough to withstand Minnesota winters. Well folks, these mittens are those kind of mittens! The boiled wool is perfect for keeping heat in and cold and wet out. I pair these mittens with thumb-hole golfing sleeves when skiing, fat tire biking, and hiking during the winter so I can slip them off easily with a barrier between myself and the cold. It works great! This is my second pair, as these are the mittens I give my family visiting from more southern states who are not acclimated to the cold, but want to have fun outside.
