Q: Did this really just increase in price from $24 to $43?

Because Amazon allows every seller to set their own prices for the products they sell, you may see a significant difference in pricing between sellers. As a seller on Amazon I appreciate that customers have multiple choices. As someone who also purchases from Amazon I make it a point to always check to see who has the best price and/or best shipping time to meet my needs. As I write this, my search for this product shows 5 different sellers (myself included) with a range of prices all of whom have the same ship date. If you are only seeing 1 seller to purchase from, I recommend you contact Amazon’s Customer Service department to ask why that’s happening. I’ve been selling this product for months and in that time there has been at least 1 other seller and sometimes 3 to 4 other sellers offering this product along with me. I hope answer helped. Q: Why don't these show packaging? i am curious what the size difference is between large and "giant"

Sorry this wasn't included in my first answer, but more directly the giant shells weigh 2.25oz. or 64 grams. The large weighs (2/5) of an oz, or 11.2 grams. So in actuality the giant is about 5.7 times larger than the large.
