Is it worth it buying this bag or would it be ok just to buy something padded in the right size?

I would say definitely that it is worth it. I have never had to remove it as it has all the right cutouts to easier plug in everything you need and the front pocket holds your adapter and cords with even room for a cannula!

Will this work with a Inogen 1G3 including the venting?

No it won't. You can only use the machine-specific bag for all portable concentrators.
