Life of Verdi, The

It is a well acted and filmed telling of the life of the great composer, Giuseppe Verdi. His music is presented by top opera singers and orchestras, It was done as a serial by RAI TV of Italy and then shown in the USA in the early 1980a. A very enjoyable biopic to savor over and over.

This is the THIRD purchase of the same DVD; they are all defective.

I enjoyed this production when it first aired in the 80's but couldn't get it on Netflix, so I had to buy it. Great scene where Verdi is "serenaded" outside hiswindow by the whole orchestra playing the overture to "La Traviata".Also, many great "behind the scenes" segments showing theatrical effects such as lightning and ocean waves created to add to the drama.And, drama was very much Verdi's concern, like Wagner, but Verdi doesn't get enough credit for this.

I had this in old video cassettes, then in 10 dvds....this is more manageable, Carla Fracci is a sensational Giuseppina Strepponi, RAI production well above average, Ronald Pickup excellent.

I am so happy to find this still available for such a reasonable price. I watched it years ag when it first came out, and while it started s not as great as I remember, it’s still pretty darn good, and I’m glad I gave it.

Loved the whole story. The production was a bit lacking finesse, but it worked for me.

I fell in love with this movie a few years ago and I'm just glad for the opportunity to own it!

Yes I noticed like others the bad dubbing. I would have preferred for The Life of Verdi to have been shown in the original Italian with English subtitles. Otherwise excellent! Is there a season 2?

Es una serie basada en la vida de Verdi, grabada en locaciones originales en Italia, sumamente apegada a los hechos históricos y con magníficas actuaciones en los papeles protagónicos. Muy recomendable para aquellos que se interesan seriamente por la ópera.El audio está en Ingles con subtítulos en el mismo idioma. Es una pena que no este la versión original de audio en italiano. Los subtítulos en español también serían deseables. El inglés utilizado es de dificultad media.Muy recomendable
