I bought these a few weeks ago as a replacement for my RPWFE filters. Yes, they aren't supposed to replace the RPWFE, but if you buy the RPWFE filters from GE, they're right at $50 each and--from a filtration perspective--do nothing more for you. The only thing you get with the E filter is the six month timer that displays on the little monitor on the refrigerator door. Handy, sure, but in no way worth paying 4x as much as these filters. So these filters on their own won't work in replacement of the E filters, but all you have to do is peel the RFID tag off the original E filter and stick it on one of these and you're off and running.

So far, so good
I ordered these filters from Amazon and installed the first one about 2 weeks ago. Excellent flow rate from water dispenser and the tap vs filtered water taste-test, done blindly by myself and my wife, noted a significantly improved taste with the filtered water. I have bought other knock-off brands for the last 2 years since buying the refrigerator, and have never been satisfied with the taste vs tap, or the life of the filter which seemed about 2 months, tops, before the flow began to diminish. The original GE filters are the best, by far. People complain they're expensive, because they are, but if you do the homework you'll see they're a better made filter, filter more bad stuff that most of us don't have in our tap water to begin with, and last longer. I'm always looking for a cheaper, but reliable alternative, which improves the water taste, I.e., removes chlorine. So far, this one is the best I've found. We'll see how this ones doing in 2 months.UPDATE 11/19/17. I have used 2 of these filters with no problems. No leaks, filtered water tastes fine, dispensing stream stays strong. Am ordering more. Still recommended.

Good quality. Can replace RPWFE, too if you get creative.
As good at the OEM... or very very close. Make sure you run it for a bit to get best taste and wash out the dust from the internal stone. I use it with my RPWFE fridge. If you got a GE fridge that counts down the days for replacement, the "plug" that was in place before you put the first cartridge in has a RFID tag on it - hope you saved that. You can simply use the RFID tag from the dummy and tape it to these. Your fridge will say "not filtering" when you use the water, but it works and saves $30 per cartridge. Shame on you GE.

Solved a common problem for RPWFE not fitting
Like other people I tried to do the “hack” to avoid buying the more expensive filters. Unfortunately it wouldn’t fit in the receptacle if mine and I ruined two filters before deciding to give up. About a year later I reordered determined bc of the reviews that said they work. I noticed when I got it that the RPWF had different tabs than my GE Slate fridge. At the top inside the receptacle there is a tab that had to be pushed in and locks when you turn the filter. I cut off the side tabs on one end with a razor knife and it slid right in! Yay! Now I’m in the club too!

Works great as RPWFE if you have the bypass plug still
I bought these to replace my very expensive RPWFE smart filters that cost four times as much. I simply taped on the RFID smart chip on the Waterdrop in the corresponding location that I had removed from my bypass plug that came with the refrigerator. I missed the correct location the first time and the GE refrigerator locked out the water dispenser valve so I just re-taped the chip in the right location and I am back in business. The refrigerator reports it as no filtration which is because it thinks I am using the bypass plug. The other benefit is I don't get the 6 month reminder to replace the filter on the refrigerator which is so annoying but instead use a calendar reminder on my phone.

Works great for me as the water tastes as good as the OEM filter, and the price is right. My GE fridge requires the $50 RPWFE filter every six months or it has a tantrum, but instead I taped the RFID chip that came on the filter bypass plug the fridge came with to the dispenser compartment wall approximately where it would sit if attached to a $50 filter. This chip is different from the ones that come on the OEM chipped filters in that it never times out, isn't uniquely identified by the fridge computer, and really has no effect other than displaying "Not Filtering' in white letters when dispensing water. These are all good things, as I was not prepared to pay $100 for filters every year.

Will no longer be ripped off by GE by paying $50 a filter.
Works like a charm for my RPWFE filter requiring GE fridge. Didn't want to be ripped off by GE so this was the next best thing. Don't throw away your original GE filter so you can stick the RFID chip on these! The water tastes great, and flow is good. Just make sure you run it for a gallon or two at first just to get it going without sputtering. However, just keep in mind you will have that annoying "replace filter" sign on the water dispenser electronic screen.

Great Alternative to RPWFE
Why pay $60.00 For a filter that is timed for 6 months? All you have to do is remove the chip from the bypass filter and tape it in the same spot and orientation as if it were on the filter on the inside wall of filter housing. Put a pitcher under the spout and it purges the air and some black water comes out just like the original RPWFE until you run it a bit to filter out. Only thing is when you dispense ice or water it says "not filtering" but it is. It only displays that when you are using it. Considering what im saving im totally fine with that. They give you stickers to place inside to remind you when to change filter.
