Q: Seller: what is the metal this is made of?

steel, but not the highest quality spring steel

Q: What kind of alloy? stainless steel? aluminum? plain steel? brass?

Chrome plated spring steel I think.

Q: will they fit on a belt loop?

Probably not real well, obviously it will depend on the dimensions of the belt loop. The rounded portion at the closed end is just under a quarter inch around, not a lot of room if your belt loop has any amount of material plus the narrow channel in front of the closed end is only about a 1/16 of an inch across. This is a fairly solid clip for it's size so you will need pliers if you want to reshape it to fit your application. Good luck.

Q: Can anyone tell me how wide the clip is? I need to know if it will fit through a 3.5mm hole.

I have the 1.5" - 38mm long spring hook. It lists the diameter of the large end as 8.1mm, and the small end diameter as 5.9 mm. It does not list the width of the metal, but I measured it as 2.83mm, so it should be capable of clipping through a 3.5mm hole.
