Big Improvement (clarification)
I bought this filter to address a scale problem on our water glasses. The filter made a big difference, and the water tastes much better. We live in the desert Southwest; much of our water supply arrives in open canals. An ugly scale builds up on the inside of any glass used for water, especially the top half. I tried a lot of combinations of dishwasher detergents, additives and cycles, to no avail. Hand washing didn't do much better. Even filling the glass with vinegar and letting it sit overnight didn't help. The only way to get rid of the scale was to polish with a dry towel, using so much pressure I was afraid of breaking the glass. Glasses used for other beverages did not have this problem. Now things are much better. Some days, the glasses look great straight out of the dishwasher. Other days, a little polishing is nice, but the scale is not as thick and much less tenacious. BTW, the other "active ingredients" are LemiShine powder additive and liquid rinse agent and Cascade Complete powder in a new Bosch dishwasher using the normal cycle with sanitize and heated-dry options -- but that combination might not be the best for your water.I did have to buy a separate bracket and install it between the valve and the refrigerator, but it was definitely worth it.Clarification: I installed this filter for only the drinking water and icemaker. The dishwasher still uses unfiltered tap water.
