This nut will do exactly what it is supposed to do - that is, it will thread onto a 1/2 inch NPT (National Pipe Thread) Tel-Tru thermometer. It will allow one to install a Tel-Tru thermometer onto a BBQ.It may be helpful to know that the Tel-Tru thermometer threads are NPT tapered, which is to say the beginning of the threaded part is smaller in diameter than the threads up near the thermometer. This nut threads on just fine until it gets to the very end, then it stops just short of the end. If you flip the nut the other way, the nut threads on just fine until it gets two threads from the end. Then it stops. This tells me the nut is also tapered - which makes it a perfect fit for the Tel-Tru thermometer provided one threads it on correctly. That is, one must thread it on exactly as shown in the drawing in the third image of this listing.However, regarding other applications, its use is limited. For example, udsparts sells a smoker port which can be installed on a bbq which is also 1/2 inch NPT. I know this because the threads match and mesh perfectly with my Tel-tru thermometer. The smoker port includes a nut. The smoker port nut will fit perfectly onto the smoker port for installation. The smoker port nut will also fit perfectly onto the Tel-tru thermometer. The nut will thread all the way down in both cases, very easily. HOWEVER, the nut included in this listing will not thread onto the smoker port threads! It won't even begin to thread. Why? Because the smoker port 1/2 inch NPT is NOT tapered. The description in this listing "Fits any 1/2 inch NPT male threaded connection" is incorrect. The truth is, it will fit any 1/2 inch NPT male TAPERED threaded connection, but it will not fit a 1/2 inch NPT male STRAIGHT threaded connection.So I'm reluctantly awarding only four stars. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. I will change to five stars if the seller eventually removes the misleading description.
