Good Quality
This is a quality face mill. The inserts that are included with the tool leave alot to be desired. At first, the tool cut really well and I could tell all inserts are cutting by the sound and finish on the parts. Then when I flipped the inserts to get a fresh cutting edge, the performance was terrible. One 1 or 2 flutes were cutting. I cleaned all the insert seats and inserts multiple times trying to get them all in line but couldn't. Finally gave up and moth-balled this cutter for a year or so. Finally decided to buy a high quality set of inserts for it and give it one last try before scrapping it. Im glad I gave it another chance because this cutter cuts beautifully with a good set of inserts!! The finish is spectacular, even in pesky toolsteel! I dont regret buying this now.

Great value insert face mill. Happy as can be.
No complaints - nicely manufactured insert face mill that delivers great finishes on my low power hobbyist bench mill. Cuts smoothly and relatively quietly. Included inserts make a nice chip in Aluminum and steel alike. Recommended for any R8 spindle machine. Replacement inserts available at very reasonable prices, which should be factored into anyoneโs purchase decision, as youโll spend more on the inserts over the lifetime of the tool than the holder itself.

Experienced machinistโs assessment
Exceptional quality in all aspects. The design is excellent with a great, useable profile. The use of end mills over 1โ in diameter are sketchy in an R8 collet. This design ensures a stable, short, rigid and strong interface between the milling head and the tool. The materials and finish are excellent and surprisingly well done considering the low price. The suppled inserts are also of surprisingly high quality. I used this cutter/end mill right out of the box to modify a snap-on tools hardened tool steel socket. I ran at 1600 rmp and took .040โ-.060โ passes. This cutter went through the tool steel like it was aluminum. The height of the inserts relative to each other is right on as well, so Iโm not sure why other reviewers had issues. This tool is for milling/hogging and boring and isnโt ideal for fly-cutting so maybe people have unrealistic expectations with regard to surface finish. If you want a really nice finish, no end mill can compete with a fly cutter and shouldnโt be expected to perform the same. This is an excellent tool at a ridiculously low priceโฆ

Not bad, and definitely worth the price
I'm a hobbyist and got this mill to speed up facing ops. I had read the reviews and knew that some folks have had issues with inserts seating at inconsistent heights, but I thought I'd take my chances. On mine, one insert is about 1.5 thou high, the rest seemed pretty even. The included TiN-coated inserts did a respectable job on some mild steel, about as good as I've gotten with a fly cutter (I suck at grinding fly cutter tool bits). The inserts were *way* over-tightened from the factory; I stripped out one of my Torx wrenches trying to free them. Not really a big deal, those wrenches are a dime a dozen. I tried some YG-1 TiAlN-coated inserts and...wow. I got the best machined finish I've ever seen on steel of any kind. Again, that was with mild steel--not the best material if you want a good finish. It's almost like glass. I know that this face mill could do better, but my milling machine has hit its limit.

CAVEAT, YOU MUST KNOW!!!
Good but with caveats. The inserts that come with the tool are meant specifically for steel and hardened steel. They will give a mirror finish on steel. HOWEVER!! Do not use them on aluminum or copper or other non Ferrouss materials expecting the same finish. They will leave lousy swirl marks on nonferrous metals. See pics. For aluminum, copper, brass, etc. You need much sharper inserts. Get APKT1604 G2 H01 for this tool and you'll see those mirror results on nonferous metals!

A Must Have for Mini Mills
This cutter is perfect in every way! It is well made and performs flawlessly. Everything is square and spins true. Runout is about .0008. The supplied inserts are of high quality, and they cut through some tool steel that I was working on with no problems. I took 30 thou cuts at 1700 rpm and the finish is smooth as silk! I've purchased a lot of components from Accusize and I have never been let down. This 1-inch endmill is a must have for mini mill owners!

... size wear plates for injection molding tools so materials like ampco 18 and copper impregnated CRS with thickness varying ...
I use this in a j head bridgeport at work to size wear plates for injection molding tools so materials like ampco 18 and copper impregnated CRS with thickness varying from .250" to .500", has absolutely no problems doing so, I have also done some 1" wide cuts with it (the cutters diameter) cutting both P20 tool steel and CRS and .050" cut depth. I run the tool at 1k rpm for most cuts and 1200-1400 for "finishing" cuts. I do recommend having a VERY rigid setup when using this tool because you SHOULD NOT baby this thing it WANTS to cut. I always have the quill all the way up in the head and locked. Make your cuts as close to the vise as you are comfortable with or you will get chattering. No regrets buying the cheapest one, I might get a larger model in the future for face milling.

Would buy again
To the best of my ability to make measurements, all of the inserts were set at the same height (within 0.0015"). The mill cut smoothly with no significant vibration or chatter at 400 sfm (800 rpm) and 0.05" depth of cut. The milled surface felt smooth with no scoring. I would buy again. Only time will tell how long the inserts last.

Great but just a whisker from perfect
The example I got is cleanly made and cut very nicely. It cut easily and smoothly. But it wasn't quite perfect. There was just the slightest of a score line I could just barely feel with a fingernail. I'm fussy so I cut a surface then felt penned the end relief edges of the inserts and ran it over the surface again. One of the inserts was rubbing just slightly more than the other two. I removed the insert and with a fine knife sharpening stone I lightly polished the upper lip of the seat so the insert would seat a micron or two higher. This very slight fine tuning made the surface perfect. It still has light swirl marks as is common with a rotary cutter. But the finish was dead smooth where before it had the slightest of ridge. And yes, this is gilding to what was already a very nice lily. Used on a Busy Bee CX603 mini knee mill. The low overhang on this tool is a big help compared to the two part arbor and shell mill combos
