GREAT MOVIE!!!
All star cast, grit and humor. They don't make them like this any more. Donald Sutherland as "Oddball" is a definite highlight....as is Caroll O'Connor as the general.

Clean DVD, plays perfectly
I love this movie and got tired of hoping it would show on tv. DVD is in perfect condition & plays on my DVD players with no trouble. Great actors, nice story, and there’s Oddball. Only positive waves!

Funniest War Film EVER!
I've always loved this movie! The inevitable "spaghetti western" showdown near the end is timeless! Donald Sutherland creates a character that everyone has met at sometime in their life. "I don't fix 'em, I just drive 'em..."

arrived in a week.
Took about a week to arrive, but in good shape. This is my Fav all time Clint Eastwood movie. Great superstar cast, including the best role for Donald Sutherland's talents as 'Oddball'. This movie has it all (except maybe romance) with Humor, action, grit, great story and great acting. I've seen this movie at least a dozen times and never tire of seeing it again. If you're even a casual fan of Mr. Eastwood, and haven't seen this movie, do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

Do you know what's in that bank ...?
An enjoyable Sunday-afternoon lager, crisps & videos romp. Or so it has now become. A straightforward treasure hunt, set during the Second World War.With the Vietnam War still featuring prominently on American television screens, the notion of a 'war comedy' was initially not looked upon entirely favourably by Hollywood head honchos. Nevertheless, featuring Clint Eastwood, fresh from his successful part in Where Eagles Dare, added to the lure. Furthermore, both the acid-droppin' tank-commander with his notions of "There ya go wid da negative waves, baby ..." and the Mike Curb Congregation singing Burning Bridges over the closing credits are definitely products of the fun-lovin' and hippy-trippin' 1960s, and helped ensure wider appeal.'Busted down to Private' (for effectively wiping out a company of GIs, the result of acting on bad orders when attacking a hill), former Lieutenant Kelly (Clint Eastwood) retains his authority within the Recon platoon, although this is shared with sergeant 'Big Joe' (Telly Savalas). After fortuitously acquiring knowledge of a German gold bullion transport, Kelly feels his platoon - having done so much point work for the Allied war effort anyway - should have it. The prize being gold, the platoon are soon easily persuaded - including initially-sceptical Big Joe."You could probably use some armour," says an odd voice as Kelly arranges logistics with hustler Crapgame (Don Rickles). The 1960s voice belongs to Oddball (Donald Sutherland), who's three dishevelled Sherman tanks have successfully avoided active combat for several months. A neat parody of Blood 'n' Guts General George S. Patton is provided by blue-eyed Carroll O'Connor as "Aw, forget about yer flanks!" General Colt, complete with epaulettes on his dressing-gown ("... did you lose my aerial photographs ...?"). The unfolding adventure is very much in a semi-Sergio Leone mercenary gold-getting style whereby even the opposition is lured by quick riches. Along with the pretty neat action sequences (in which our jolly Jerries come off looking pretty incompetent and stupid, of course), perhaps it is this, rather than the then-concomitant flag-waving of Vietnam War involvement, that appealed to the cinema-going audience ... baby. And perhaps only a keen miniature modeller - or just a Nitpicking Git - would make an issue of it, but Kelly's Heroes scores the Highest Possible Marks in all war films for at least having a German Panzer actually look like a German tank. In the West there are many wartime Sherman tanks kept in running order preservation by societies, enthusiasts and organisations of enthusiasts (such as Keep 'em Rolling!) for re-enactments or to feature in films. But the same cannot be said for wartime German tanks. Although superior to all tanks of the Western Allies, German tanks - especially Panthers and Tigers - were incredibly complicated to manufacture (shortages of, particularly, chromium and molybdenum - used in hardening - forced the Heeres Waffenamt's emphasis on quality over quantity; for the Allies it was the other way around), and consequently required unusually high levels of maintenance, particularly the aforementioned PzKw V Panther and PzKw VI Tiger and their variants, with their complex interleaved roadwheel arrays. Today, wartime German tanks are only found in musea (such as Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and Bovington in Dorset), as static displays in open-air musea (Overloon in the Netherlands) or town centres (Houffalize boasts a fine Panther). As usual, the Jugoslav National Army (much of the film was shot around Ljubjana in present-day Slovenia) furnished extras and heavy materièl. Three JNA T-34/85s were mocked-up with appliqué bits and pieces to resemble Tigers of SS-s.Pz.Abt.101 (part of SS-Panzer-Korps-1, Leibstandarte-SS Adolf Hitler - the Waffen-SS' premier field unit) - and they made a pretty good job of it, too, right down to the effective anti-magnetic mine Zimmeritt paste finish. Okay, the aforementioned Nitpicking Git can tell where the effort could not quite work - turret too far forward, glacis-plate too short, roadwheels wrong, the Tiger's chronically understrength powerplant could not allow it to traverse its turret whilst on the move, the Waffen-SS' Tiger crews were stuck in pre-1944 black Panzer attire instead of the mottled camouflage patterns, and their piping should have been pink (Panzer) instead of white (Infanterie). But nonetheless this attention to the tank's detail, or at the very least effort willingly made, stands in stark contrast to, for example, the risible Battle of the Bulge with American M-60 tanks painted dark-grey facing American M-60 tanks painted dark-green ...Perhaps because of the element of comedy, Kelly's Heroes is very much a Lads' film, although some girlfriends and wives will endure ... sorry, enjoy it as well ...!

Genreperle

Buddy-Epos
In der Tradition von the good, the ugly and the bad oder dem Original M.A.S.H.
