The Life of a Mid to Late 20th centry British Veterinarian
Excellent for family viewing. Each story is told as a complete episode in the on going life of veterianian Al Wight pen name James Herriot. Herriot was an excellent writer judging by his having sold over 60 mollion copies his books world wide. The venue is the beautiful Yorkshire dales where Herriot practiced his trade. The stories contain happy and sad and the humorous episodes that follow most of us around as we walk down life's corridors.

Wonderful,Amazing Series
Wonderful as Usual! I love this series ever since it came out in the 80's. Why can't the U.S. make lovely, clean series like this one. Another good one is "Larkrise to Candleford" and, "Cranford." I watch these over and over while doing jigsaw puzzles.

UK videos
I am very disappointed in "All creatures Great and Small". I did not find any reference to it being a "plays only on UK player". I shipped it back 04/12/2017 / 9:41 A.M.. It's been over 2 weeks and haven't heard from sender or received my money back from "Movie whatever". I think all video's that are basically from another country should be designated as such on ALL their videos. I am very disappointed!

Good with a sad touch
With Tristan still in Ireland and Calum and Deidre marrying and moving towardsCanada the episodes actually improve because the stories are concentrating onnew characters and customers.DVD navigation is similar to series 5 and therefore not as good as with series 4.This series - filmed 1990 - features a very tragic episode if you are familiarwith the real people behind the fictional vets.In the first episode Siegfried convinces James that the three vets shouldall sleep in Skeldale House to revive the good old times as long as the wivesare out of town. But it doesn't work out. Calum escapes into the pub and Jamesand Siegfried do not know what to talk about actually, so they go to bed earlyand Siegfried brings his TV set to spend the evenings alone in front of it.In real life Siegfried not only survived his younger brother (died 1988), butalso lost his long-term friend James and his wife in the same year (1995).He decided - like in the episode - to live in the real "Skeldale House" again, where the son of James lived and worked as a vet at that time. But he did otherwise, instead of looking forward to a future oflonely evenings (spent in front of the TV ?) he committed suicide.

Unfailing and intelligent entertainment.
Once again, a great variety of scenarios = some funny, some sad - and characters are squashed into the 13 episodes comprising this series. Everybody is getting older, and wiser, and Siegfried is beginning to show his increasing age. If anything, I think that this series, and series 4, surpasses 5 in relevance and realism. Coming from the same part of the country myself I can wholeheartedly recommend it as truly representative of ideaology, character and countryside concerns.

All viewers greatly pleased
I have purchased four series of this programme and each one has been a pleasure to watch. They were made in the days when you could let any member of the family watch. There is no bad language and all the energy is put into the production of the stories. What a pity they came to an end. The actors looked as if they passed their Vets exams and are very realistic. I repeat what a pity they ended. Ken Churchill
