Simplified Design of Wood Structures

This book is a great refresher or textbook for design professionals. Not as in depth as the true wood design bible (NDS) but it does clearly cover all bases required for straight forward design work or preliminary sizing of structural members. The calculations cover ASD and LRFD calculations and the two blur upon first read but after a second examination the each calculation is distinguished from the other. In my experience this seems to be the norm of books that cover both types of calculations.

If you're doing any design of wood structures, this is the book to have. Great references, cut the fat content. Very good for real world application design. Super inexpensive.

The author must not be a native English speaker, because this book is almost impossible to comprehend. Here is a sample paragraph:"A critical part of all structural design work is the necessity to understand and evaluate the physical performance of the structure in the work of resisting the loads it must carry. Some amount of mathematical work must usually be done to support this investigation. The work in this chapter presents some of the fundamentals of applied mechanics that are applied to this work. In the end, it is the design work that must be accomplished; but the simple structural behaviors described here must be addressed in that work."The word "work" appears 7 times. The whole paragraph is just a rambling mess. Here is how that paragraph should have been written: 'The first step in structural design is to calculate the load that the structure will carry.' BOOM. That would have been a million times easier to read. The problem is, the entire book is written just like the paragraph I quoted.I would not recommend this book at all. The grammar is simply atrocious. Returning mine for a refund.

Good informative book

This textbook is a very useful resource for my Temporary Structures College Course Class. It is a physically compact book.

Concise and really practical

I have tried to contact the seller various times to return the book but I get no reply. I have dropped this course and for a month now I have unsuccessfully tried to contact the seller. I did receive the book on time but the course was dropped and no return/refund policy was posted.
