Q: How to make it play songs and record?

The same way you can record voices you should be able to record a song for example from your phone. But it only records small amounts.

Q: Is this toy supposed to mimic what you say? The one i received doesn't.

Yes you should be able to press the button and speak and then it should copy what you say back to you. If yours is not repeating what is said then there must be some kind of problem with the one you received. Best of luck to you I hope you get it sorted out.

Yes definitely install the battery and the voice is smooth but high-pitched. It definitely makes everyone laugh and it is a fun toy for adults as well as kids

Q: How do I turn off the recording?

there are two buttons: 1 for recording, one to play music. if it is on (button under planter) it is silent until you press any of those buttons.
