Made a delicious salad!
I read a Food & Wine article in which chiefs were asked to pick their favorite non-perishable pantry staple. Philip Whitmarsh named pickled walnuts which I had never heard of before. The article included a recipe link for tomato salad with pickled walnuts and blue cheese. I really enjoy trying new foods so I immediately went to Amazon to look for pickled walnuts. This product seemed the most promising even though the reviews are definitely mixed. I decided to give it a try. I am so glad it did!I must confess though, my first impression was not favorable. I pictured shelled walnut pieces but instead when I reached into the jar, I pulled out a large alien-spore looking brown ball. It actually was slightly repulsive looking to my untrained eye. I did not realize that the entire walnut, shell and all, was pickled. I already had the heirloom tomatoes and celery chopped so I forged ahead. The walnut is soft and was easy to chop into pieces. It looked rather like chopped kalamata olives at that point.Turns out the pickled walnut made a completely delicious and interesting salad. One reviewer said that it was sweet to her palate and I agree. It tastes like it was soaked in balsamic vinegar, which typically imparts a slight sweetness, even though it was not.Well, my whole family loved the salad even my picky 13-year-old and 10-year-old. My husband tried to trade the 10-year-old his dinner roll (a big favorite at our house) for her salad, but she declined! I could not believe that compliment!Anyway, at least in the recipe I tried these pickled walnuts are delicious. There are only 4 in a jar because they are very large. I only used 2 in the salad. Bottom-line is that we highly recommend these. Keep in mind, this is the only brand we have ever tried. Sometimes it is hard and disappointing to try to find a replacement for a favorite product which is why I think some reviewers were disappointed.

Fabulous! They are definitely an acquired taste - most of my friends can't stand them. Perfect, more for me!Great with cheese, strong cheddar, wensleydale or similar

Exactly as advertised
I ate these as a kid in the 80s at grandmaβs house. A nostalgic jar every Thanksgiving brings back the best memories. 3 people tried them for the first time and all 3 liked them. Thank you for quick and undamaged shipping. I will def order again.

Arrived with seal broken
Arrived with seal broken and leakage. I really wanted to try these, but not comfortable ordering more since there are several of the same reviews.

Pickled Walnuts
Too soft and slushy. Taste slightly acidic and nondescript. I threw out half a jar (something I seldom do). Not the firmer distinct walnut taste distinct from other pickles I have been used to.

These pickled walnuts are very good!
The pickled walnuts were delicious! The glass jar of pickled walnuts arrived on schedule and it was adequately packaged with the perfect amount of packaging to ensure that the jar would survive the delivery process. The jar was in its original sealed condition with no damage whatsoever.I would order from this vendor again.

Lid was damaged and some leakage occurred
I'd never even heard of pickled walnuts before but then saw them in a Britcom and decided I'd give them a try. There was a strong smell of vinegar when I received the jar and the bubble on the top of the lid was popped up. (In all frairness it was wrapped in bubble wrap and I don't know how UPS managed to bump the jar so hard it damaged the lid unless it was damaged before it was wrapped in the warehouse) There was a dent on the edge of the lid as well and a slight amount of vinegar had leaked out. They taste very strongly of vinegar, more than I would have thought they should, but I've never had these before. Since I've never tried any other brand of pickled walnuts before I don't really have any way of making a comparative judgment. If you've never tried them befrore, give them a try, you might like them.
