Great book.
Great book. Absolutely loved reading it. Gripping at times but overall she had some breath-taking moments. I liked her as a correspondent as despite being American she doesn't have an annoying accent!

It left me speechless. And determined.
This account of Clarissa's breathtaking life as a journalist will leave you speechless for many reasons. You will be astounded that the world is still not safe. That there are so many people suffering in this world. That you did not know so much about what is actually going on around you.And then you will feel determined - to make a change in any way you can.Clarissa's book is one that will make you uncomfortable and angry. It will make you cry and breathe out in relief. It will show you that wars and conflicts affect the little people like you and me.But this is precisely why you should read this book. And then make it your aim to not ever turn a blind eye to the hardships of a stranger.

A perspective-changing, compelling read
I enjoyed this book as much as any I have ever read. The story itself is deeply compelling but it is also full of equally engaging sub-stories told beautifully, with compassion and intelligence. I have often felt that events in Middle East in particular, are slightly inaccessible - too complex to easily understand and too far removed from western reality to identify with. Without it feeling remotely like an education, Clarissa cuts through the complexity and tells the human stories behind the politics, making things at once both horrifically real and very easy to identify with. I know this will remain a book I urge others to read and I look forward to my children being old enough to read it.

A touching memoir of a courageous professional
A riveting account of the geopolitical mess in an age that’s as senseless as the medieval era. This book is a must read for those who recognise and appreciate heroism combined with passion, empathy, humility and vulnerability. Chapter 11 is truly touching. No sexism intended, but this is also a must read for women who aspire for a life full of purposeful physical and intellectual action and adventure. This passionate memoir certainly makes the literature on journalism as well as geopolitics richer.

Amazing book!
Fantastic read. Clarissa writes in such a human way and tells her stories with such great details. It reads more like a long form article which is great if you’re a journalism lover like myself.
