DaR (Darverius, House of DaR Book 1)

the house of DaR really sucks a reader in.
This book was awesome from the beginning. I was interested in the plot front the first page. The characters are interesting and this author doesn’t get lost rambling on unnecessary details. Sometimes in a new series the author will try to explain the whole plot line with lots of details that after several pages you think…get on with the story will you. Kira is a happy married 40 something woman who along with her husband Rick decided to go on a wonderful vacation. They are on a plane that stops in mid-air and the roof of the plane is ripped off and aliens board the plane. These four armed aliens proceed to murder the men and abduct the women. There are a lot of Violet scenes in the first part of the book, it’s strange because the aliens are not so concerned with the money they’d make rather focused on torturing their captives. Kira is lucky to be bought by the owner of the planet. This is truly their story.I look forward to reading more by this author.

meet DaR of Darverius
meet DaR of Darverius and a tiny human womanLove this introduction to a new series and its inhabitants. I loved most that this female lead is older and not able to have children. Kira was ripped away from her life after watching her husband die to protect her. She was mutilated, tortured, and at the edge of life. She was rescued and cherished. She was to be free and cared for. She was valued for being female, but he valued her because she was a woman. She was a slave. She was to become part of the house of Daverius. Not knowing what any of it meant. She chose to run. This run was not wise. This run almost cost her, her freedom and her life. DaR was the protector of many. He was already a father to 28 sons. He did not need a breeder. He was feared in some circles. He was something more than a warrior. DaR was not looking for a slave. He was not looking to be a hero. He gets a prophecy from a little child. He knows that now his life will be changed. He is just not sure in what direction the change will take him.Kira makes DaR’s home a real home. He makes Kira his. Unwittingly he makes the pronouncement to the whole of the universe. Kira is just a mere human who will be the mate of DaR. DaR the most ruthless and feared commander. Now everyone will be gunning to take him down through his Kira. They will be in for a fight because taking what belongs to DaR will be harder than they think. Ms. Kira has more than just DaR watching out for her safety.Overall 4 out of 5 starsPerformance 4 out of 5 starsStory 4 out of 5 starsI found both narrators, Emily Sutton-Smith & Tor Thom, did a good job. The duo introduces us to the world of Darverius. I enjoyed the cadence of both narrators. Tor made DaR come to life while giving each of the males differences.Reasons I enjoyed this book:Entertaining Great world building Wonderful characters Easy-to-read

Hooked
I am definitely hooked on this series. Can’t wait to read more. The beginning of the book was really hard to read. It broke my heart what Kira went through. But I have to give it to the author she really did a fantastic job portraying the gruesome scenes. It was all so vivid like you are watching it happen in front of you. I love all the characters. DaR is amazing. There were very minor grammatical errors like instead of “affectionately” the book has “affectingly.” Also, I think on page 182, DaR says to bring an “astrology crew” to help find the location of Earth but he should have said “astronomy crew” instead. Astrology has to do with the birth signs like aries, taurus, libra, etc. while astronomy has to do with the stars, planets, etc. The read was well worth it.

Wonderful Story
Thinking was a great read! I finish it as fast as I could read. What a great ending with many questions left to answer in the next book. The beginning was scary and the treatment of the characters awful but it made the story even more compelling. Highly recommended for anyone!!!

Ok, but could have done without the screaming AGEISM
PROS: the world building is pretty good. There's clearly lots to learn here and will take more books to detail, but this is quite interesting. The adventurous plot, while something of a typical abduction story, is more than that with some cool twists and turns. The female lead is a strong woman without some of the annoying tropes so prevelant today. In particular, the passages about her grieving process were really on mark. The male lead is pretty 3D with a nice empathetic bend that makes him more than just an alpha.CONS: Holy guacamole, the AGEISM is just all over the place. While I'm always grateful to read about mature characters, calling a woman in her 40s OLD is just ageism at its zenith. Every few pages you get a reminder about the female leads advanced age. Such a complete and total turnoff!!! News flash, people. Forties isn't even close to old. If you as an author don't get that, it's best to confine your writing to characters in their 20s. There's a huge need for stories with mature characters. People in their 50s, 60s, even 70s are still viable and yes, even sexually active. Shockingly, many in those age groups don't waste time talking about age, aches and pains, and the past. Please, authors, if you choose to have mature characters, don't denigrate them with stereotypes around aging. This pretty smart and interesting story could have been much, much better without the ridiculous amount of ageism throughout.

Justice for Rick!!!
Wowza. Ever wonder why [romance genre] aliens only even seem to abduct single, orphans with crappy jobs?!? This is for anyone who enjoys a good alien romance to experience the “what if?” with a heroine’s background that might hit closer to home. 2nd Act Love! This is a classic book one and sets up the greater storyline for the rest of the series — be prepared to commit to more reading because you’ll fall for these characters.P.S. if you don’t read this sub-genre I’d recommend you start with a different series, as this one expects a lot from a reader in the first few chapters.

Bene!!

Loved it
This is your tenth book and I didn't even know. Well not anymore, binge reading here I come. I loved this book, it made me cry, smile, laugh and fall in love. I can't wait to get my hands on the other books. Though this was a slow burn it didn't bore our drag. I must thank Georgia Lyn Hunter for bringing you to my notice. Eagerly waiting for your next.

Just read book DaR - ViN (1-10)
This is just what I had to say about it so far -I love this series and I've non stop read 1 to 10. I'll be off to scout next.At first it seemed like just a lovely book, which it is! But as the series goes on, the more in-depth it becomes. It's almost as though you can see the author growing in to her shoes more and more. It just keeps getting better! The first two books I found with the strong southern slang, it was hard to separate the personalities, but as I said, it just gets better. There is a few problems with grammar mistakes but it's easily overlooked.I have read many sci fi stories, but for some reason I couldn't not put this series down! They're all so different and I love how each book basically continues on the other couples stories too! It's just fabulous, thank you!
