You could cut the over-the-door part of the bracket and simply screw it to the door at the top.

It does not feel like chrome (comparing to bathroom fixture chrome which is heavier). However it is very steardy. From loafers, shoe boots, to ankle boots...not a problem for this rack. It is decorative considering its behind the door. I orginially brought it for my self but could not open the door completely with the rack hanging on the back. My youngest claimed the rack and loves it. She now organize her shoes with this rack. I recommend this product.
