The Charismatic Gift of Prophecy
A**
Excellent
I've read many books on the subject, and I've tried to read only the best ones on both sides.Wayne Grudem is by far the best apologist for Continuationists. Jack Deere is not as sound Biblically or logically, but is very representative of modern Continuationist thought and is more persuasive than most.O. Palmer Robertson's The Final Word is the best response to Grudem, but Gentry's book is very good and worth reading. In particular, Gentry does a better job with 1 Cor 13:8-13. Robertson is perhaps better at countering Grudem's novel redefinition of prophecy. Two other must reads: Sam Waldron's To Be Continued? and of course Warfield's Counterfeit Miracles. However, keep in mind that Warfield is not writing to defend a viewpoint so much as to look at the subject historically. His book is necessary for historical context. I found these books to be more tightly reasoned and compelling than comparable books by MacArthur, Masters, Chantry, and Gaffin, though all of those authors are also good to a point.
