Yes expensive, but it works
I have tried a lot of methods in an attemp to get quack grass out of a bluegrass lawn. Up til now, I have just been frustrated and have had failure. Regardless of what some reports said, it killed the bluegrass where I sprayed for quack grass. I selectively sprayed the quack grass clumps in a small area (about 140 sq ft) last fall. The bluegrass died within a month and it stunted the growth of the quack grass. During the winter the quack grass died back. It is now mid April and there is no indication that the quack grass survived through the winter. About a month after spraying I surface seeded the sprayed areas with bluegrass which is now filling in. I plan on spraying the rest of the quack grass clumps this coming fall. Yes it is expensive but a little goes a long long ways and it does work where all other methods I have tried, including a high rate of roundup, ended in failure. By the way, I only used one application, rather than two as is suggested in usage directions. One report I had read said one application would not kill the bluegrass. I thought I should share my experience. Happy customer.

Don't Waste Your Time On Other Herbicides If You Have Nutsedge - Buy This
Our landscaper installed a new tree in our yard and it came with a large colony of nutsedge. My experience with nutsedge is that it was created in hell and is indestructible. The OTC stuff from the Big Box stores didn't touch previous stands I attacked numerous times. Our landscaper repented and gave us some Certainty. One application and two weeks later it was going down. All of it. One and one-half years later, no regrowth. I have a new area in the back yard I bought this for. It may seem expensive but one small container is good for 100% coverage on one acre. I use it for spot spraying the areas of nutsedge in my lawn once a year as I see them, so this might last me the rest of my life.

I Changed My Grade!
New Review (4 stars, 7/8 weeks after first application) Kept my original 1 star review below as reference... About 6 weeks after my initial spray, long after I had given up on this product (and written the review below), I come home from work and noticed multiple brown patches developing where my quack was most fierce. It does seem to be working.. Every day the patches become more pronounced. I had spot sprayed pretty heavily so it does seem to also be rough on the immediate grass around the quack.. But this stuff does seem to work. If the quack I sprayed this fall is not around come late spring, I'll be logging in an changing my review to a 5... And buying more of it!!!! Another reviewer said "BE PATIENT"... He was right on the money. I'd also really like to know if anyone has done general broadcast spray on an entire lawn and had success. Thanks! Original Review below (1 star, about 4-5 weeks after first spray) I don't like to give negative reviews, but I tried this product twice (with Southern Ag surfactant). On the second application, I had double the recommended concentration of Certainty (spot spraying only so wherever I sprayed got a HEALTHY dose of this mix). I don't see this product affecting the quack at all (as I hoped). More oddly, it didn't even seem to be working on more common broad-leaf weeds and thistle plants that were directly sprayed. I wanted it to work soooooooooo badly, but for whatever reason my bottle just is giving no results. Is it possible they made a bad batch of the stuff, as others have had such good results? Anyway, at nearly $100 per bottle, I just can't afford a second bottle to experiment.

Certainty herbicide
Excellent post emergent herbicide for southern weeds. This product has no temperature restrictions for applications like most post emergent products. It’s specifically made to kill visible grassy weeds similar to POA Annua or Blue Grass weeds without harming Bermuda turf. Always follow the instructions on the label for mixing, rate of application and the right sprayer including foliage spray tips. Easy to use and I always recommend PPE ( personal protective equipment). This product can be mixed with Celsius herbicide for broad leaf weeds. As a combo, they work well together.

all sedge gone in my Bermuda yard!!
very effective at killing sedge in Bermuda grass here in AZ. sedge is gone and Bermuda did not suffer. for the negative reviews, either you didnt use it correctly or applied it to cool season grass. *** DO NOT USE ON COOL SEASON GRASS!!*** Monsanto has updated the labeling and now does NOT recommend using Certainty on cool weather grass. only use on warm weather grass (bermuda, centipede, and zoysia) easy to use. just mix 1 large scoop w 2 gallons of water in a sprayer + surfactant, apply to dry grass with 3-5 days of growth (ie dont use after water application or mowing), apply early in the morning (below 85 degrees), water soon after, dont mow for another day or 2, and then wait 4-5 weeks. this stuff works, legit. my 1/4 acre bermuda yard was infested w Sedge, over 50% of the yard was sedge-only and Bermuda was killed off in many areas. sedge is now gone and the Bermuda is filling in nicely.

Didn’t work on poa
Used as directed for five applications to kill poa in my Bermuda yard, starting in January. It just did NOT work. I contacted the seller and they had no idea what they were talking about and essentially blamed me for not using it correctly with a pre-emergent to kill the root. Not only is this incorrect, I did use pre-emergent to prevent new growth. But this product did NOT kill the poa that it was applied to. WASTE OF $100+… I’m not sure if I got a bad bottle or what happened, but it did NOT work and the seller would NOT assist.

Mixed results
My bermuda lawn is loaded with weeds. After several years of watching the "pros" do nothing for my lawn, I decided to invest in a couple of high dollar herbicides, starting with certainty. I sprayed this over my yard immediately after purchasing. I patiently waited, but saw little results on most weeds. Poa annua eventually died off, but it did take about 5 weeks. Yellow nutsedge was not affected at all, from what I can see. The dallisgrass is stronger than ever this year. I bought some blindside last week and applied it to the nutsedge, and two days in, I see significant browning. Several of the surviving broadleaf weeds are all but dead from blindside as well. I'm going to wait to see if it actually kills the weeds rather than just harming them, but so far, it's had some results at least. Given how little of the certainty you actually need to use, I'll probably try it again later in the year. If I see more results, I may update the rating. So far, I'm not impressed for the money, however.

Worked on Established Poa Annua in SoCal
Applied twice, one week apart, at recommended rate in late February on 1600sqft lawn. Located in Southern California. Temps ranged from 60degF to 70degF. Well established Poa showed signs of impact within 1 week of second application. No impact to St. Augustine. Some signs of impact to dwarf fescue. Fescue was already stressed due to fungus. Photo is of dying Poa (yellow grass in center) at week 4. Easily enough product for another 4-years of application if needed. Great value if Poa is an issue. Definitely recommend.
