I was looking forward to reading this book and ....
....I was not let down. This book comprises the life experiences of, mainly newly qualified nurses going to embark on a career in A&E, in the military and others. Very well brought together, not sure how much James Patterson had to do with this but it keeps him relevant. I loved this book, even though it is very Americanised. I recommend this book to you all.

This is truly a great read.
This is truly a great read. I've been retired for ten years now, but my first job out of nursing school was at a Regional Trauma Center in SW Michigan. So many of the stories brought back memories of specific patients and crazy situations I hadn't thought of in a while. I've also been an EMT, an army medic and clinical specialist, and a Coast Guard corpsman. So the military section had a special meaning for me too. For me, most of the chapters produced either tears or laughter. The "above and beyond" things nurses do for their patients and families are some of the things I miss a lot. After finishing the book, I had an odd feeling for several days and thought it was due to remembering some of the tragedies I had witnessed. But it wasn't so much that, as it was the feeling of not being a part of something like that anymore. I've worked with some of the most dedicated, intelligent, irreverent, courageous, and talented people I've ever known. And I miss them every day. Nurses are yelled at, spit on, assaulted, overworked and exhausted - but will pick up extra shifts and still come in on time the next day. Those of you who are still working and counting the days till retirement, will miss all the great things you're doing now and all the great people who are so much a part of your life. Believe me.

Gripping
Very interesting, captivating even. A page turner. Most of the nurse's experiences in ERs, ICUs, and other medical facilities may be mundane albeit busy, depending upon the hospital, the shift, the patients they care for. If you're an ICU nurse in a covid unit, you're always under stress, always in danger of being infected. But even in medical units before covid, there must be mundane, routine duties. The authors spare the reader those routine stories, instead giving us first-hand accounts of memorable, extraordinary situations, which bring happiness or sorrow to the nurses whose stories are told. Patients lost, patients saved. Thankful to be a nurse, or wondering what they're doing in this line of work. The authors draw you in, making you identify with each nurse sharing their victories and their defeats.
