Q: Do you have to use the front plastic cover? because I just plan to have a glass protector.

Yes ,the 2 pcs must use together ,other wise can't fit perfectly, since the case have a front screen frame , so you can't use the full screen glass proector, but can use the smaller screen protector

Q: How do I separate the 2 part's so I can install on phone? Can't get them apart

The same thing happened to me. What I did was I tried to loosen the top part (the frame-like thing that snaps on the top with the phone in place on the back part of the protective cover. I went around the perimeter of the top (the frame) gingerly trying to loosen it and separate it from the bottom of the cover. I repeated that several times after which it came off but also broke towards the bottom. I reported this to the seller and they replaced the whole thing. When I received the replacement protective cover, I only snapped the bottom part on to (the back of) the phone and left the top frame like piece alone and did not use it. The phone still stayed protected even with the top part off. I have used it like that for months, and even dropped it a few times but the phone itself never got damaged. Hope this helped.
