Runs fine with 3.7 hp motor
Installed this yesterday on a 30 gallon tank, im using a 3.7 hp 220 dual capacitor motor and it starts up effortlessly. I used it for three hours last night and my motor barely got warm. I see others ask if a 3.7 hp motor will work with this pump and so far I see no issue. It fills my tank from 80 to 120 lbs very fast, takes about 20 seconds. It’s a lot quieter than my old pump and a much cleaner sound. So far I’m very happy with it! Update, used new compressor to paint a car today, worked great, much better than my old pump. My old pump would run constantly while spraying, this one filled up tank fast and easily kept up with my hvlp paint gun, very pleased!

After 3 or 4 months of run time, the compressor is still doing great. It is on a 80 gallon tank that it used in a commercial shop, so it gets run a lot, it is quieter and cycles faster than the old pump ever did. I had to modify the plumbing on the unit to make it work on the old tank, but I knew that going into it.

Works well
I've only had it for a few weeks but it works well. Takes just under 5 minutes to fill my 60 gallon tank. Way quieter than my 27 gallon 5hp portable compressor.

Only running for a few weeks so……fingers crossed.
My original compressor finally bit the dust and had to be replaced. I looked at everything, read all the reviews, and came to this conclusion. Some are cheaper, some are more expensive, this is in the middle. Most models have a number of good reviews as well as some pretty negative ones, as does this one. I find the negative reviews, some have legitimate QC issues but most are from folks that either really don’t know what the hell they’re doing, have unreasonable expectations, or just like to bitch. The compressor looks and feels as durable as the one it’s replacing, is significantly quieter, and replenishes the tank remarkably quick. Was the footprint exact? No! So I just fixed it! I aligned the pulleys, drilled a few new holes, modified the belt guard, and put it in service. If you don’t think you’re going to have to do something similar with any off brand product then think again. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is duration of service. Hasn’t been long enough

great bang for the buck
great product always rely on northern tool. Regarding hp requirements the required 4 hp is not in question but one question was if a 3.7 hp electric motor will run this compressor. It will if the 3.7 hp motor is a compressor type motor. the used one I have is a large frame motor (nearly as large as most 5 hp motors) and is called a 3.7 "running hp". from a Kobalt compressor two capacitors on motor 1 start, 1 run.

Very Disappointing
There is no way this compressor puts out 13cfm. It doesn’t put out any more than the 7cfm pump it replaced. My first clue was when I saw that it had a “A” belt pulley on it. Really....an “A” belt to run a 13cfm compressor pump?! Bogus!!!

Nice pump for the price
Works great for my home needs. Fills my 25 gal tank super fast. Shipped as promised. I used a 3 hp 220v motor with a 3 1/2" pully and it works great.
