FANTASTIC CHRISTMAS ALBUM!
I remember this album very fondly when I was a young child. My Dad bought it on vinyl, the songs are fantasically selected for the LP, the best songs that Motown could have produced for any Christmas LP.To think that this album is nearly 50 years old now is impossible, if you forget that Micheal Jackson is no longer with us, this sounds as fresh today, as it was back when it was first recorded. I love the alternative mixes on the album, the stripped ones are simple awesome! The megamix of the album (they call it a medley) could have been done a little better, but still a good listen. My favourite track on the entire album has to be "Upon on the housetop" a traditional christmas song written by Benjamin Hanby back in 1864, with a Motown twist and personalisation of the lyrics to the band themselves - a fantastic up tempo christmas tune that just epitomises what a fantastic christmas pop song should sound like. No religious tones, just simple melody, decent upbeat tune, and a song that you can sing very easily (if you so wish! LOL).The christmas messages from the Jackson 5 are a nice twist too. Hearing a very young Tito, Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon and of course a very young Michael!Someday at Christmas is a firm favourite as well, a Stevie Wonder favourite sung by the brothers, so brilliantly! The only "Corporation" written song is "Give Love On Christmas Day", written for the Jackson 5 for this very album. It is the epitome of Christmas in itself, giving love to everyone, remembering that Christmas is all about peace and harmony, not just about material things. If you are missing any type of Christmas album in your collection, let's hope it is not this one, if you are missing this one, you are really missing one of the best pop Christmas albums in the world!
