The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton Widely regarded as one of Edith Wharton’s greatest achievements, The Age of Innocence is not only subtly satirical, but also a sometimes dark and disturbing comedy of manners in its exploration of the ‘eternal triangle’ of love. Set against the backdrop of upper-class New York society during the 1870s, the author’s combination of powerful prose combined with a thoroughly researched and meticulous evocation of the manners and style of the period, has delighted readers since the novel’s first publication in 1920. In 1921 The Age of Innocence achieved a double distinction – it won the Pulitzer Prize and it was the first time this prestigious award had been won by a woman author. Review: A GOOD ADDITION NICELY PRICED. - IF YOU JUST WANT TO READ ONE OF THE BEST AMERICAN NOVELS EVER WRITTEN, BUY THIS BOOK. YOU DON'T NEED ANY LONG PRETENTIOUS INTRODUCTIONS. Slow, Provides View of Wealthy NYC Society
If I could, I would rate this book a 3.75. It provides a single line plot whereas my preference is for novels which are a little more complex. Unexpectedly, the focus was on the culture of wealthy NYC society around the 1870's. It was worth reading, but it felt really slow.

a statement for All Ages
A beautiful word painting of an age that shut themselves off from feelings for the sake of pleasure and nicities . In contrast to the present age where feelings shy us off from nicities and meaningful pleasures

I (now) understand why this is on every "best of the classics" list
If you've never read Edith Wharton, read this! I loved The House of Mirth and Ethan Frome, so I knew I was going to like this book. I loved it, and so did my husband. We each had our own copies, and we had so much to discuss. This is definitely on the "I think I'll be rereading this" shelf!

Age of Innocence
This was a book club selection & when I first started reading it, I didn't like it & found it boring. After I got into it, I was intrigued by the characters, the plot and the rich descriptions of New York society in that time period. An excellent read!

Nothing like the image shown
Very disappointed. I love the illustration depicted on the cover of this edition, but a different one was sent. It's not worth the trouble of sending it back, though. I would've gladly paid more to get what's shown. The print is very small, too, but it looks like all the pages are there.

the age of innocence
Excellent livre, surprenante et audacieuse analyse de la société de XIX sciècle, l'histoire très universelle et plutôt moderne. A conseiller vivement.

Beautiful edition!
Read about this classic in another book. Came packaged safely. Good edition to have. Haven't read the book, so I can't comment on it. But the edition is beautiful and came in excellent condition.
