works but do the other stuff too and you'll see an enhanced benefit.
My doctor said I was too fat, so I lost 20 some pounds mostly through diet; I then added some exercise to the routine and finally, as my reward, started this supplement. All elements combined, diet, exercise, and this supplement (and others) have made me feel energetic and healthy and alert (especially in the AM). I don't think I've even had a cold in the 2 months that I've been taking this supplement. Being educated in tenets of science I understand skeptics who will rightly say that it is unknown whether diet and exercise alone could be responsible for this. But I've done all this previously and feel that the niacel does add something. I don't care if it's non-scientific or even if it's a placebo effect... who cares- my subjective experience says to keep using it. I should also say that I take 1 gram of fish oils/day some vitamin c, and the resveratrol + pterostilbene too.update sep 2017; I ran out of pills and money so effectively gave myself an ABA clinical trial. In the B phase now and find that I'm really feeling aches and pains that I did not experience while on the stuff. I am still in very good shape tho. I continued with the exercise regimen and diet with a focus on decreasing lectins; have now lost over 30 pounds and actually that is a bit deceptive because a lot of fat was lost while at the same time muscle mass increased. Will be returning to the A condition shortly which involves an AM dosage of NR and also the Resveratrol/Ptero combo and a multivitamin. At night, I swapped out the fish oil for krill oil and included glucosamine and another calcium/mag/zinc combo pill.I have decreased my BP meds by 50% also because I did go back to my snotty doctor for my annual check up and my improvement was documented. My labs are all normal now (had elevated triglycerides and my HDL/LDL a year ago was not good either) Will be adding some additional collagen hydrolysate to the diet. Saw some people I hadn't seen in a couple of years and they saw a big difference. Said i looked younger.I'll take that as an independent eval.to go along with my more objective measures. It saddens me that it is so expensive because these kinds of supplements are out of reach for many people and therefore contribute to the problem of an uneven distribution of health resources. You might as well label this, "kill the poor."update April 2018Time to order some more nicotinamide riboside; I pay for it just like you and if you do a bit of research, you'll come across some accessible literature even if you do not have a background in organic chemistry. Try the Scientific American article - I think the research and development of the supplement should be compensated but object to the the supplier jacking up the price some 100% (that's what it seems to me; IDK if that's 100% accurate). In any case, no good comes from greed; just look at what befell "pharma bro." Have discontinued the glucosamine as I feel the research was just not conclusive to justify its use. Went through the collagen hydrolysate, but was not completely convinced that it had any effect, so I did not continue with that. Have continued with the exercise and diet regimen; the exercise includes weight training where I am building core strength - I'm stronger now than when I was in my teens; have also started high intensity interval training; all of this leaves me feeling pretty fantastic so much so, that I continue to purchase this product; it's not that it is addictive per se, but I am nervous about discontinuing it... given how good I feel everyday... Start slow and just adjust small things first; you'll see progress and then try to build upon that. For me, it was not eating Dorito chips one day. Also, once you reach a certain level of fitness, it just seems less of a chore and burden to maintain it.Update March 2019Yes, I'm still taking 250 every day an all benefits mentioned above have been maintained in terms of cognition, particularly executive functions, and also physically. About a year ago, I started feeling a little dizzy while working out and so my bp meds were cut in half because it was likely due to my increased health status. I have been on various bp controlling meds for over 25 years (e.g. calcium channel blockers and ACE inhibitors; and have always responded well to them). Now I'm on my third month completely off all bp meds and maintaining a normal bp! It's on the higher side of normal so my doc and I are monitoring this closely to see if I should stay off. Again, this supplement combined with exercise and diet are working for me; taking or not taking a pill is easy, the difficult part is to maintain your diet and exercise regimen; it does get easier to do this, but if you are exercising at an appropriate (and increasing) intensity for your status, then that will never get easy... good luck to you all.

Worth trying, if you can afford it
I like this stuff. I'm not sure what it is actually doing...but I do notice I feel a little less old (I'm past 50 now) and creaky when I take it. It is a subtle yet noticeable difference. It doesn't seem to cause any reactions such as stomach upset or headache or anything, or appear to interact adversely with any of the other various supplements I take (I am not on any pharmaceutical medications). So other than the fact it is definitely the priciest supplement I take, for now I find it useful enough that I'm willing to spend the $$ to buy it. I do only take 250mg a day, although from what I read from the few human trials that have been completed about dosing and toxicity, I could go higher amounts if I wanted to. Ya, maybe if I win the lottery... ;)

Doesn't work like other actually "Niagen" products, felt almost nothing with this...
Ok, I waited the entire 60 days of taking this (took one pill a day) to write this review. My experience with Nicotinamide Riboside/Niagen started with a bottle from a company called Nectar7: Nectar7 Niagen Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) Vegetarian Capsules with NAD+ Activator, 30 Day Supply 250 mg/day (2 capsules, each 125 mg) in the morning. It was life changing for me. Chronic Fatigue...gone! Energy? Lots of it. Better sleep patterns? Check! Clear mind! Yep. I was feeling like a teen or twenty- something year old (in my early 40s). However, when I ran out I wanted to go with a cheaper option. Thinking that all the Nicotinmade Riboside is the same (because they are all supposedly made by the same company re-packaged/filled into capsules by distributors) I bought Niacel-250 (this product) which is one 250mg pill and 60 in a bottle. Comes out to be under $30/month if you take one pill a day. By far the cheapest option out there. When I started taking it I noticed that I wasn't getting the early morning "pick up" feeling anymore. My sleep patterns went back to "bad" (going to bed way too late), my mind gradually turned foggy again....I just couldn't explain it! I still had more energy than when I wasn't taking Nicotinamide Riboside at all, but it was getting worse and worse. I even recommended this product to two other people (now I feel bad about it) before I bought it myself (due to the low price) and they reported feeling absolutely nothing. At first I thought I was just "getting used" to Niagen and the effects may not be as noticeable as before....but I had my doubts. Only one way to find out...go back to a "Niagen" product 2 x 125mg/day in the morning. I could have gone back to Nectar7 but I heard a lot of good things about HPN Niagen so I wanted to give that a shot. Plus, I wanted to see if bottles that actually advertise Chromadex Niagen (as oposed to this product which doesn't) work the same way on me.So, unsatisfied with Niacel-250, I ordered HPN Niagen: HPN Nutraceuticals NIAGEN - FREE 2 DAY SHIPPING - Original Patented NAD+ Booster with Nicotinamide Riboside - 60 Capsules - The Only Independently Tested and Most Trusted Longevity Product Got it today...took my 2 pills in the morning...and BOOM...there is the energy again. Sustained energy throughout the day, just like I was getting from the Nectar7 Niagen. The experience so far is exactly the same, my mind fog is gone (yes, it works pretty much instantly) and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting my healthy sleep patterns back soon. So, bottom line is, two out of three Nicotinamide Riboside products have the exact same (positive) effect on me, this one doesn't at all. Not sure what the deal is here. Is there really 250mg of Nicotinamide Riboside in here? Is there any kind sustained release ingredient that may mess with the NR's effects and absorbtion? I don't know....all I know is I won't be buying this brand again. Maybe there is a reason why Thorne doesn't call it "Niagen" like everyone else. And for anyone who's interested, here is the review of my first ever bottle of Niagen from Nectar7:https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R28NBP9RYJ924Y/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01CUNRXWWEdit (Nov. 3rd, 2-16): I changed my "star" rating from 2 to 1 star. It's been about a week since I started using HPN Niagen and the change (once again) is incredible! I'm full of energy and feeling like a 20 year old! It's undeniable now that Thorne's Niacel-250 wasn't working (at least in the energy department) *at all*. Would *not* recommend this to anyone. In fact I'm going to warn people in various forums and public media about this product if they're looking to try out Nicotinamide Riboside (Niagen).
