So one has first fabricate a wood bed frame? and this is only the hardware for that to be wall mountable & pivot?

Hey Gcretro, correct actually it includes all the harware except the wood or particle board for assembly. I'm sure you could fabricate something similar and use the hardware, but the instructions included are really specific to the 1/8th of an inch and correct placement of hardware is crucial to assembly. It includes directions for all cuts for panels from 48"x96" sheets that maximize the total amounts of wood without waste. also that dvd is pretty step by step. When installing the pistons to frame i realized how crucial and glad i measured correctly all mounting points. All n All its was a fun project can be done in a weekend, I used the 3/4 plywood option ran me about 250 for supplies and paint, and its a sturdy piece.hope this helps...

what weight capacity can the hardware handle

Well, I'm a big guy ... 5'11'' & 240lbs.. My wife is (Whoa...I almost messed up there!!!). Anyways, I think this bed, once assembled correctly, will easily handle 500lbs. Hope this helps.

About how much money should I expect to spend for the wood needed to build this bed?

It depends on the size of the bed you would like to build, but on average the cost is between $200-$400 for plywood or particle board.

How many sheets of plywood are required for a queen mattress? How many other pieces of wood and what type? $200 to $500 is a wide range.

For a queen size Murphy bed , you will need 4 sheets of 3/4"plywood, 2 sheets of 1/4" plywood , some 1"X2" frame struts and some solid wood. You can also build the entire bed out of plywood if you cut the wood yourself which cost a lot less. If you use the average plywood (not the more expensive ones ) your cost with be around $300-$350.
