Cannon 1901020 Easi-Troll Manual Downrigger

As advertised, this small downrigger is great for 20 to 100 feet of fishing depth off the side of a small John-boat. Don't expect a Cadillac product here - it is certainly entry level, but at less than half the price of others on the market, it is a good option for those that want to try downrig fishing without breaking the bank.I've heard of a lot of people breaking these units within days of receiving it. Personally, I think that would only happen if someone tightened the clamp or brake too tightly or used a weight heavier than 4 pounds. Yes, a heavier weight will reduce blowback and let you fish a littler easier when deeper than 40 feet, but remember that this is a small entry level downrigger. If you want to fish at precisely 87 feet directly below your boat while trolling 4 km per hour, this is not the product for you. solid materials and appears well made. couple of things that could be improved upon. clutch release is very touchy, line goes down so fast with very little backwards movement of the handle that often the line release mechanism lets go. very frustrating. lanyard for the cannonball should be included, increase the price of the unit if required. the instructions for securing the terminator are confusing. holes A B and C appear to be holes that are used to clip the unit together after the wire is threaded. the holes that are used to thread the wire are very small and located in the top and bottom ends of the terminator. after an hour or so of trying to make this work I realized my error and finished the job. very easy once you figure it out unfortunately I ruined the terminator

This specific down rigger plastic material is so brittle. Due to lack of elasticity, it cracks the first time I made a normal hand tight to close mounting clamp. I felt so disappointed when I was at the sea to catch salmon when this down rigger clamp side crack. I can’t & didn’t have chance to use it at all. Too bad. I end up so frustrated at sea 😩.

I felt the clutch was hard to operate, kept my hand on the reel to lower the weight, but it runs well the base clamps on easily, there should be a left hand and right hand sides.

for the price and what they are they are was satisfied. Was disappointed that the line counter on one the the two units I bought did not function properly so I need to manually count. Not worth the hassle of returning for this defect.
