I bought 2 and the 2 ring perfectly. You select the time and the timer when arrived at 0 it will ring.

Q: how long does it ring for when the time is up?

It died fairly quickly after a few weeks. The ringing feature didn't work after a few uses. I bought a digital timer instead.

Q: If it lays on its back will it be level based off the front dial? If not, roughly how off axis is it?

I can't answer your question about it being level, because I threw this product in the garbage. It does not ring. If I had read all of the reviews prior to buying it I would have known that it has this defect. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

been a while since I used it but I think it does. Dropped mine and it rings two minutes before its suppose to go off.
