Great coat
This coat is great to have; it is very warm and of good quality. However, it tends to run larger than expected.

Fantastic duffle coat
I had been searching quite a while for a nice duffle coat, and am really happy with this one. First off, it's made in England, which is a huge plus. Secondly, while it has a bit more polyester in the blend than a Gloverall duffle coat does, it is significantly less expensive as a result. It also has a slightly more modern fit than a Gloverall, which I like. Overall, it is a fantastic duffle coat that hits all the marks perfectly.A word on sizing. I am 5'10" tall, weight 160 lbs., have a 31" waist, and usually wear a 40R jacket. I bought the Montgomery coat in two sizes - 40 and 38 - because I wasn't sure which one would fit better. The 40 was definitely too large, but the 38 fits perfectly in the chest, shoulders, and torso. Originally, duffle coats were designed to be rather large and to fit as such. Today, though, people tend to want a more flattering look. If you are a bit thicker around the torso or if you plan on wearing your coat over a blazer or sports coat, then I think going with your usual size should be perfect. However, keep in mind that, like traditional duffle coats, this one isn't lined. As a result, it will be a chore to get it to slip over a sports coat. I don't plan on wearing mine that way, so I decided to return the 40 and keep the 38, which fits nicely even with a thick wool cardigan underneath.Like traditional duffle coats, the sleeves are on the long side. Again, this was how they were originally designed back in the day as well. The sleeves hit me right about at the base of my thumb bone. For my tastes, that's too long, so I took mine to a tailor to have shortened by about 3/4". As for the overall length of the coat, it hits me a few inches above my knee, between mid-thigh and knee length. That's exactly perfect for me.Overall, this is a fantastic coat. I would highly recommend it! Sizing is between spot-on and one size too large, depending on how you intend to wear it.

I 🫶 this coat!!!!
The media could not be loaded. This Montgomery duffle coat is pure British charm! It has that classic Paddington Bear appeal with its warm wool and toggle closures. It's incredibly well-made, stylish, and perfect for keeping cozy during the colder months. A timeless piece that will last for years to come.

Quality was there
I returned the coat. Fit fine across chest, but sleeves were too long

Best Coat I've Ever Owned!
I've wanted an authentic British duffel coat for years and finally splurged on the Original Montgomery. This is, without doubt, the very best and most durable garment I've ever purchased. I looked at more expensive versions and finally settled on the Original Montgomery. I cannot imagine what more I would have gotten for double or triple the price from other manufacturers. All I know is that this is the warmest and heaviest wool overcoat that I've ever owned while also being the most comfortable. There were many reviews that quibbled about sizing and I'm not sure what that is all about. I wear a 42 and ordered a 42 and it fits like it was tailored for me. I'm 5'8" and 175 lbs and this coat runs exactly to my knees. The tartan lining is incredibly warm yet very soft and comfortable. The thickness of the coat is easily 1/4" if not more and, with the spacious attached hood, is downright toasty in the cold weather. I also love that it's totally waterproof!Needless to say, I am thrilled with this purchase which, with Amazon Prime, arrived in two days flat! HIGHLY recommend the Original Montgomery if you're looking for THE authentic 'original' British duffel coat that will last a lifetime!

Beautiful coat, bad fit advice, tough return policy
This item is described as being offered with free returns. That's true, but geez, do they make you work for it! You do NOT get a free return if you use the return label Amazon provides. No, you'll be paying return shipping costs if you do that. If you want a pre-paid return label, you have to call the manufacturer and wait for them to mail ( not e-mail, mind you -- SNAIL MAIL) a return label to you. In my case, that took 2 calls and 2 weeks. While they did eventually come through, why not just live up to the spirit of what you're offering and give people free returns right up front through the Amazon return process? That being said, the coat is beautiful and extremely well made. I'd say it's an excellent value for $299.00 as long as it fits you -- and to that end, I'd strongly suggest you ignore the recommendations from both the manufacturer and many reviewers here to order down a size. I'm 5'9", 180-something, and reliably wear a 42 Regular suit with a 16.5/33 dress shirt. Following the advice to order down a size, I ordered a size 40 in this coat. Well, that was very bad advice. The coat was quite tight through the shoulders and upper chest, even with just a lightweight summer shirt. It would have been impossible with a bulky sweater. The other aspect of the fit that was off for me was the sleeve length. The sleeves were a good 3 or 4 inches too long for me. (If you're a tall skinny guy with long arms, this coat will probably be perfect for you, though.) If the coat had fit me correctly in the chest and shoulders, it's nice enough that I'd probably have lived with that and either rolled back the sleeves or taken it in for alterations. The other funny thing about the fit? While I was waiting and waiting for my return label from the manufacturer, I grew frustrated enough to order a duffle coat from Gloverall. I ordered my normal size -- 42 -- and that coat fits me perfectly, no alterations needed, plenty of room for layering.
