I ordered this because I had a craving for some rendang udang. We used to order it from a Malaysian restaurant by our home in Minneapolis. Since we moved and the restaurant closed I have been without for a long time. I was not sure if this would be any good but it absolutely was. I had to kind of improvise on the directions a bit because I wanted to use shrimp and some vegis instead of the beef that is recommended. I added some sliced carrots, bell pepper, and onion along with my shrimp and it was great! Just a couple things to note- the directions suggest marinating your meat ahead of time and simmering your dish for an hour or more. So it does require some pre planning. All seasoning needed are in the package.

Excellent. Delicious. Everyone LOVES it
You pay a premium compared to getting it from Singapore but it is fantastic. Everyone LOVES this and it is simple to make too. I use boneless beef short ribs and my instant pot to pressure cook the beef with beef broth (45 minutes on high) after sauntering it directly in the instant pot, then switching to regular cook for the potatoes and the finishing off coconut powder (about 20 minutes). Tastes even better the next day

Wow, I'm impressed!
One of my coworkers brought this beef rendang to a potluck at work last December. I was so blown away by how good it was that I asked her for the recipe. She laughed and said, "There is no recipe; I just bought a beef rendang kit on Amazon by Prima Taste." As soon as I got back to my desk I bought a kit of my own.I put it in my cupboard and forgot about it until last week. I thought it would be complicated but was surprised to see that the instructions were quite easy: Just mix cubed beef with the rendang paste and let marinate. When it's time to cook, saute the beef and paste on the stovetop, then add the coconut mix and simmer until the beef is cooked to your preference of doneness.Even my preteen daughter loved this. I will be making it regularly from now on. Easy and delicious.

Authentic flavor
I am an Asian, born and grew up in one of South Asian countries. I love most of Prima Taste brand products. This one is very flavorful and authentic, just not spicy at all but you can add your own chili pepper (sambal or cabe) š

A fantastic base when bolstered with a few fresh ingredients & quality dried herbs and spices....
Having never tried rendang previous to purchasing this product, I cannot attest to its authenticity as to flavor etc. but according to research regarding herbs and spices required to prepare the dish (candlenut, lemongrass, galangal etc.), this product does comes close to the ones I read up on during my efforts. That said, I am a cook who tends to doctor up any and all canned and packaged products -- using them only as a base or foundation for the dish/recipe. To that end a variety of fresh and dried herbs and spices were added to this sauce, including curry leaf, fermented shrimp paste, turmeric, lemongrass, tamarind paste, dried galangal, fresh shallots. While it was still at the sauce-y stage, I sat down to try a bit of it with steamed rice: the results were superb, even if I do say so myself. The restaurant quality was beyond belief as compared to any homemade dish I had ever had up to that point; my own or anyone else's.The only issue was that in allowing the remainder of it to continue simmering to the dry stage, all the meat in it disintegrated into a thick not so great tasting sludge along with the greatly reduced gravy. I found it inedible at this stage and had to throw it out. (This has nothing to do with the quality of this sauce kit, however.)I cannot exactly say how this dish would have turned out without the doctoring, but I did taste the curry sauce before adding other ingredients to it and was impressed by the quality and richness of its flavor, and am buying another kit to try my hand at it a second again. This time, however, I will turn off the burner at medium consistency, when the beef has become just tender enough to eat.My advice to anyone who has the extra time and a few spare dollars is add a bit of fresh ingredients, good quality dried ingredients as a boost to the Prima Taste Rendang Curry Sauce Kit, or to any packaged or canned sauce (e.g., spaghetti sauce, canned chili, sloppy joe sauce, barbecue sauce, jarred curry sauces, et cetera).(One star excluded due to the effects doctoring efforts added to the resulting dish.)
