Capturing the history and uniqueness of r66
If you love history and a different view of route 66 this is for you.Not a guidebook but gives ideas and really shows how important it is to capture the moment in this ever changing landscape.Blue has done a lot of research into recent (last 100 years) history which is already semi forgotten

Fascinating subject, well-illustrated & beautifully written
A visceral travelogue of the underbelly of Arizona's Route 66. These are the sights and locations that aren't in the shiny, picture-perfect tourist brochures, and are all the more fascinating for it.Decaying gas stations, long-deserted diners and derelict motels along this legendary highway are presented with beautiful photography and intriguing back stories of the communities around them.Thoroughly recommended for fans of American road culture and urban exploration, or for anyone planning a slightly unconventional itinerary for their Route 66 trip.

Beyond the guided tours
This probably shouldn't be your introduction to Route 66 but it will be a valuable addition to your bookshelf if you intend to really explore the Route in Arizona or if you are curious as to why a one-time pass of the Route just isn't enough for some people. The nicely done photos provide a look at some of the layers of history that contributed to the story of the highway and Miller's words fill in some very interesting details of that history.

Not what I had expected
I've read many of the Arcadia and 'Abandoned' series of books and have always been very pleased. This one was quite a letdown. Seemed to not have any organization, and many paragraphs, pages, were just repeated again as long photo captions. These books do well because of the excellent collections of photos. More pics with captions needed, and less of the poor writing. Feel like I got a partial history of the Rt. 66 story in Arizona.
