Great Fun
We bought the Boss VE-5 to accompany our karaoke setup. It has been a very fun addition, can't say enough good things about it. It does an amazing job making us sound good. The effects and amount of customization this little machine has is almost mind blowing, I am still learning all it can do. However, it is very user friendly and doesn't take long to learn it's basics to get started quickly. The only thing I didn't like was the manual was in complete chinese! What a total disregard for attention to detail from Boss, not to mention disrespectful to the American market. Other than that oversight, the VE-5 is amazing and I highly recommend it.

Reliable, great sound and interface
This is a great sounding little unit that is super easy to use. It does not have 3 part harmony like some of the newer units coming out but that is usually used for a very specific genre of music. It is very easy to do quick basic tweeks or to dig deeper to fine tune the exact sound you're looking for, much like most great Roland interfaces. The mic stand attachment (included) is very versatile.I'm just disappointed it took me this long to discover this gem.

Easy to get good results right away
I have two other VTs and this is by far the easiest to use for a single vocalist or as part of a karaoke setup. It isn't ideal for karaoke - I want to call that out right away - because there isn't enough time between singers to adjust vocal sensitivity unless I have a real dead night. But I do have a few regulars that I can use this on and they enjoy it.There is a lot to like straight away. I opened the box and everything I needed to get started was in there. The batteries. The good instruction manual. The universal mic stand mount.I started out with this on my standard PA and then shifted to using head phones in order to play around with it without disturbing the rest of the household in order to practice. It only took about half an hour for me to feel confident that I could use it live at a karaoke gig.So far my only difficulty has been setting some of the defaults in the mic menu, but I ultimately figured it out. Each time I go into the setup, unless it is for the mic settings itself: I'm editing the preset. So if I turn on pitch correct it is on for that preset until I turn it off. And if I switch to a different preset: the pitch correct might be off/on depending on the last time I changed it there. But if I adjust the mic sensitivity it is set one time for all presets until I change it.Apart from the above, no complaints and this really is a lot easier to use than the other VT options out there. It has standard XLR in and out which is great so it works as an input on just about any PA. I have run this with the music running directly into the VT which helps if you want to use vocal tuning. I've also run the music through the PA and vocals only on the VT.If you're new to VT's, you aren't planning to run a guitar or keys through it: start here. It's easy to get, widely used, and you'll be up and singing with it in no time at all.RECOMMENDED.

not worth the money
This product was purchased to improve vocal sound with reverb, etc. The instruction manual for use was in Chinese, (I think), and did not even include operating instructions in English. I was able to get it hooked up to the mic and have sound coming through the speaker. It has special effects features, such as "robot" voice, which I wasn't interested in, but it did add reverb to the sound. However, it also diminished the volume of the microphone so that any enhancement it might have added was of no use. For what I was able to ascertain, this product is extremely overpriced and was certainly not anything I could use. It was returned.

Boss makes great products
I was skeptical at first, but this did not make your voice sound mechanical, unless you dialed in that setting. I used minimal pitch correction, added doubling and some reverb and sounded great. I tried some of the other settings and the radio voice is awesome. It also clips to the mike stand so it's in easy reach, and you can use the headphone plug for a simple in-ear monitor. Awesome. Another BOSS win.

The VE-5 is excellent. I've used the (long discontinued) Boss VT-1
The VE-5 is excellent. I've used the (long discontinued) Boss VT-1. I was sad when Boss/Roland stopped making it. This VE-5 is a perfect replacement. It is durable, easy to use, feature-packed with looping (google it), three-button memory storage and easy customization. I love the way it attaches to a microphone stand. The VT-1 was in a class of it's own; so is the VE-5. I think it's a must-have for musicians, karaoke enthusiasts, broadcasters and others. The price seems very resonable.

Don't get for looper purpose
Be careful about claim that it has built-in looper. True o only very limited extent; about 40 seconds. That is not enough for a single chorus for most songs.
