Helpful Information, But A Bit Too Much Windows Bashing. Still, I Recommend This Book
I have been enjoying this book as I learn my way around my two iMacs and multiple MacBook Pros. I've learned quite a bit and have been highlighting as I go. When I've finished the book, I'll go back and re-read my highlights.I have a number of Dummies books and can always count on them for solid information and a bit of wry humor. Humor is subjective, sure; I get that. But some of the humor in this book is too mean-spirited toward Windows computers and the people who own them. I owned a computer business for years and can tell you firsthand that there are plenty of things that Windows on a good hardware setup does better or more easily than a Mac, so I find the Windows bashing to be a bit heavy-handed and unfounded. Having said that, there's plenty to like about the Mac ecosystem, too, so I wish that a Mac and a PC would get a cheap motel room and have a baby together that contained the best of both worlds.Even with my niggle over the sometimes tone of the book, which is why I awarded four stars, I still recommend it, as Mr. Chambers has done a good job of illuminating the ins and outs of the iMac in particular and the iOS way of life in general.

very comprehensive but quick ref guide could be more useful
Very good find on Amazon. Very comprehensive and I'm sure will come in handy.....at some point. Only giving 4 stars right now because I really haven't had to use it much. Set up for the MAC is pretty straight forward even for a first time user like me. But the Quick Reference Guide a purchased at the same time as this has been very useful and has come in quite handy several times. I almost would recommend buying it over iMac for dummies but if for some reason something should go wrong with the system.....you may need something more comprehensive.

Close to what I was looking for, but not quite the book I wanted
This book assumes you know something about the iMac. Although it's written for dummies, it doesn't hold your hand and go by easy to follow step by step directions. For example, the file organization was difficult for me. I had trouble storing files to the right folder. Everything seems to go to the iCloud which is completely new to me. I thought this could have been explained more at a more basic level. I find it a good reference book, but still have to call Apple support a lot. It was all I could find on a beginners level, but not step by step enough for me. I need more pictures and instructions that are easier to follow. I'm glad I bought it, it has helped a lot in some areas.

Book can only do so much. If you are a klutz, it will not make you smart but it does help.
I liked the book and it did help but you can do only so much if you are severely computer challenged.

I don't know how much I'll like it. But did browse through the pages briefly
Took forever to arrive--ordered on the 6th of the month and did not recieve book until the 28th of the month. Since I just got the book, I don't know how much I'll like it. But did browse through the pages briefly, and liked what I was seeing.

A good reference source
This is a great reference book to look up a subject about your computer when you haven't used a particular program or short cut for awhile. It's well written with humor as well.

Useful tool
I've used computers for years, but my iMac was the first Apple product that I have bought. Not having grown up using Apple products, I needed some help, and I have found this book quite useful. It would be a good idea just to work my way through it, but so far I've used it just as a reference tool. Using it has saved me from a lot of frustration so it was well worth the purchase price.

We returned this book
Unfortunately, this book did not cover our newer Mac's High Sierra functions. While much of it is the same, there is just enough difference that a more up to date book is needed, at least for this dummy.

Dummy reviewers needed.
I note that all previous reviewers were computer literate, some at an advanced level. But this book is for dummies, people who are coming to the subject for the first time. Their reviews are the ones that matter, but they are not represented. Like all human computer experts I know, this book assumes too much knowledge on the part of the reader. Its patronising language does not aid learning because it just makes me cross. Books of this kind should start not from 'what this computer can do' but rather 'what do you want it to do?' I imagine that 90% of computer use comprises the use of a small number of basic functions; the remaining 10% being more specialist and not every-day. So the book should start telling the reader how to do those basic tasks in simple language, assuming no previous knowledge, even being repetitious if it helps learning. At least the reader can get the feel of doing something, of making progress, and then build on that basic knowledge. Take 'cut & paste', a basic function. What's the point of it being on page 312? Reading the pages seriatim would take me years to get that far. Chris J.

Not to this Dummy!
I am new to Apple Mac's and this book is too clever for me...I cannot find most things I want to find about, I am sure the information I want is there but it is just not easy to find. I started to casual read this book to see if I can learn something random and found that it makes assumptions that I know what I am doing...but I don't...thats why I brought the book!So no use to Dummies.

Just OK - didn't suit my reading style - I like lots of screenshots which this doesn't have.
Whilst this book provides lots of very useful guides to using an iMac I didn't find it particularly easy to read. It is all in black & white and with very few screenshots which I would have found more helpful. Still it does have all the information you need, just didn't suit my reading style.

Why bother??
This book is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. All this bloke has done is write a jocular basic user guide that even the dummiest of dummies would already know. If you have any real issues in navigating your way round the overpriced and over hyped iMac this book will not help one iota. Save your money and call Apple every time you have a problem. My book is currently a doorstop. Seriously don't buy it!!I honestly wish I had never been convinced to purchase the iMac,

Disappointingly over complicated
The most disappointing ''for Dummies' I've yet purchased and it isn't for Dummies! Sometimes over-complicated, often just too enthusiastic - reads like a sales presentation for Apple (but we've already bought the machine, geddit?)
