Just use Aluminum Foil to fix it
I didn't buy it one or 2 years ago since many reviews said there's a defect. But I discovered the defect. Don't throw this product away. I actually opened it and found nothing wrong w any contacts inside. It's where the actual batteries fit. One slot is too tight. After inserting the other two, it further causes the last slot to restrict. The slot has plastic edges that fit around the battery, which pushes the battery away from making contact. So it needs something to help increase the contact such as w foil, washer or coin. And it works perfectly fine. The company needs to contact the factory to alter the mold for the plastic area where the batteries are put into. It never worked for me when I just put in new batteries. I put in my screwdriver where I felt there wasn't good contact, worked on first power button push. ------ Also check if your volume is on high and that your batteries are fresh. If they be sitting in there for a good while. These are reasons why it may not turn on or start acting funny.

I said it’s a bit loud, but it does what it’s supposed to do. It’s a math quiz and with the lights and the sounds it is sort of attractive to children.

What an awesome, engaging learning toy! I've had mine for a year, and it's still going strong. My kids use Math Slam on a daily basis. I homeschool, and I am always looking for educational, entertaining toys. This educational toy is just for addition and subtraction. There are many levels of play, from simple addition/subtraction to a double digit addition/subtraction. There IS a volume control, which is excellent. My oldest has autism, so anything that's interactive learning, helps so much more. He actually "works for" the reward of playing it. Great way for special needs kiddos to show you what they really do know. My daughter is now 6, and she wants one of her own to have competitions of who can answer the most the fastest. Math Slam has been used on a daily basis, for the past year, with no issues whatsoever. I came here just to find similar products, and decided to write a review. I paid full price for this item.

The actual game is wonderful. My kids love it which is why I gave it 5 stars. However, beware - this toy arrived used. Twice. We got this for Christmas, and clearly the box had been opened previously and taped shut. We decided to keep it anyway, until we realized the toy itself was broken. It would suddenly stop working half way through a game or not turn on at all even with fresh batteries. We returned it. The kids were asking if we could buy again, so I did, thinking the chances would be pretty low we would get a used toy twice. The seller was Amazon, not a third party, which I mistakenly thought would be more reliable. Well, it just arrived, and it could quite possibly be the exact same one I returned, now with even more tape taping it closed. It's going back again, and we will not be purchasing from Amazon a third time. Time to go to a good old brick & mortar toy store!

My 8 year old twins love this game, and they enjoy challenging me to play as well. With varying levels of play, this toy is appropriate for a wide age range. We have had it a few months, with no issue, and I can tell you that we play hard on it. It has even been thrown in a fit of anger, and come through unscathed. My kids much prefer this game to flashcards, and I can say it's improved one of their math facts.
