Honestly, I don't remember. I sent it back because the very tiny lid knob came in broken off due to shoddy packing. I tried to leave a review mentioning just that, but it was removed because you are not allowed to comment on packaging. I was very disappointed, because it was a beauty, but the lid knob was almost useless even if it had come in in perfect condition.

Q: Can you put it over a stove or in a microwave?

No to the stove top and I wouldn't put it in the microwave.

Q: is this safe for use on a flat-top range?

i returned mine as it was damaged, but with all my tea for one sets, i use my electric kettle to heat the water and then pour it into the teapot. i don't believe the teapot is made to warm water directly on top of any range. if you want one that can be used on top of a range, you might start looking for stainless steel sets that can withstand the heat of a range.
