Zoom ECM-6 Extension Cable for H5, H6, F8, Q8

Worth the money.
If you’re recording your own band rarely will camera placement be ideal for audio recording. I’ve been using a go-pro linked into a Zoom H4. It’s great when it works but inevitably a failure between the go-pro adapter, the 1/8in jacks, the thin cable and H4 input connection ruins the audio. This extension cable is stout and rugged. It’s nearly 1/4” in diameter. The adapters fit as snuggly and as perfect as the interchangeable microphones do. The satellite mic adapter has a go-pro fitting that will give plenty of options when emplacing. And it’s freaking long!! Well thought out, well build. If you’re going to spend the money on a q8, dig deep and get this. It’s a requirement as far as I’m concerned. I’ll say it again: The best location to record audio will rarely be the same location to capture the best video.

Get the long one
I had planned on getting the short one (3m) for a long time, but then needed it same-day and only the 6m one was available for this. I'm glad for this procrastination, because I ran the X-Y module up 10-feet (3m+) on a light stand. With the 3m cable, allowing for slack, strain-releif and moving the recorder around down below, I may not have gotten much above 7-feet, which is not much higher than when I mount mics to the camera from back-of-house.The construction is solid and the latching tabs work the same as the mic capsules. The built-in GoPro style mount is a nice touch (with a 1/4-20 in the base). Cable is much larger diameter than really necessary IMHO, so you need a large loop for strain releif (strap it with velcro to your stand). That's not a deal-breaker. Tip: To reduce induced hum with any long mic cable, uncoil it completely or learn "over-under" coiling (google it), especially if around any electrical cable runs or hardware. No complaints, but a solid star deducted for the sheer cost of the thing. I think Zoom missed the sweet spot on costs to make/stock a few versus making it a must-have accessory that more folks would buy (even if many would never use).

Overpriced but functional extension cable.
This cable does exactly as it was made to do and is constructed pretty well. This biggest drawback is being unable to control the gain on connected mics at the recorder level (due to the gain knob being on microphones) and a somewhat loose connection for microphones making it fairly easy to knock them off. I use this with the Zoom shotgun mic and it works really well, albeit with the aforementioned drawbacks. I’d much prefer a dedicated shotgun mic with XLR instead.

Great if you need it! Overpriced beyond belief
Works as should... My complaint is that the price is flat out ridiculous... It's annoying when a company makes something proprietary specifically so they can jack the prices to the moon... I know that this is more than a mic cable... but it's still just cable with plastic mounts on each end... should not cost more than $25

Microphone mounting options expanded.
Build quality is great. Cable feels premium. Zero noise. It expands your mic mounting options are as much as your GoPro has to offer. The XY mic that came with my H5 now serves as a backup to our shotgun mic. It's certainly an expensive accessory for your H5 / H6, but definitely worth it. Now I'm thinking of getting other Zoom mic capsules.

Great cable - horrible price
This works exactly as expected. The cable is really thick and I cannot detect any signal loss. Zoom lost 2 stars on this review purely based on the price. This is a $50 cable, selling for more than twice that.

Gives more flexibility where mic can be placed
Gives more flexibility where mic can be placed (height and location). At first, I thought it was a little expensive. After I received it I realized how well made this adapter was. Great quality.

Five Stars
Super long. Works great for booming the zoom mics right above my interviewees.

Okay but leaves gain knobs at the end of a long cable.
High quality but very expensive and means that the gain controls are wherever you have the capsule not with the recorder, it would be better to have a secondary gain knob for times when the capsule is on a boom pole or in shot.

A simple but useful piece of gear
The ECM-6 is a simple extension cable for the Zoom H6 among other Zoom products. It appears to be well made and should not be of any concern. it was bought for a location shoot in Peru. I will try to revise this revue once I return home.
