Q: does it have a removable washable cover?

It does not have a removable cover

Q: The pillow is unused and in the package. i got it out to use traveling in the car this am. it smells so bad can’t use it. may i return?

Mine had a faint odor which disappeared in a few days.

Q: Can this be used as a back support on a sofa ?

I personally use it for back support on my sofa and it’s fine; however I bought it for my husband to use and he deemed it much too small for him. He’s 6 feet tall and 220 lbs. I’m 5’6 and 170 lbs. so I’d consider the size of the person who will use it before you buy it.
