Electro-Harmonix Neo Clone Analog Chorus Pedal

Little Small Clone
If you are familiar with the E-H Small Clone chorus (used by Kurt Cobain in songs like Nirvana's "Come As You Are"), this emulates it well without taking up a lot of pedalboard space like the old GIGANTOR models. It has a "Rate" control knob and a "Depth" switch with two choices, where most choruses have a depth knob that would give a bigger range of possibility.I own a few choruses including the E-H Neo Clone, Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble, Line 6 MM4 Modulations Stompbox Modeler, and the choruses that come on the old Boss ME-6 Multi-Effects unit (no longer made). To compare to the others I own, the Neo-Clone is the least versatile as far as how many things it can do. However, it is also the cheapest and takes up the least about of pedalboard space. I think for what it does, it gives a better sound than any of the other choruses I own except maybe those on the Boss ME-6. You will sacrifice versatility for sound with the Neo-Clone.NEO-CLONE vs. BOSS CE-5The Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble gets more extreme modulations and sounds great, but to my ears the Boss stompboxes often sound a little bit dead compared to some other "classic" units (for example the MXR Phase 90 sounds much better than the Boss PH-3). With Boss stompboxes you often trade sound for versatility.I usually have the Neo-Clone on my pedalboard because I prefer it. Sometimes, I might put both on and when I do, I will use the Neo-Clone with hyper-compression to make a really nice crisp and clean 80s new wave sound like the Police or the Fixx. I find the CE-5 works better with distortion than the Neo-Clone though for an 80s hard rock sound like Rush or Living Colour.Incidently, the Neo-Clone is smaller, cheaper, and simpler to use than the CE-5.NEO-CLONE vs. LINE 6 MM4To compare it to the Line 6 MM4's choruses, obviously the MM4 has way more versatility the Neo-Clone, but the MM4 has a volume drop problem that I find hard to work with (not so with the others in the stompbox modeler series).BOTTOM LINE:(1) Great sounding chorus that works as advertised(2) Limited sonic possibility: no extremes, 2 depth choices(3) Easy to use - flip one switch and turn one knob(4) Small, does not eat pedalboard space(5) Good price(6) Appearance is OK, has some blue paint on it but looks kinda industrial

Decent alternative to the Small Clone
I've been a fan of the Electro-Harmonix Small Clone and wanted a smaller more compact version of it for a second pedalboard I put together. After a side by side comparison I can certainly say that the Neo Clone sounds like the Small Clone. Same sounds at every setting. The best part is it's small size which is a huge advantage over the classic sheetmetal enclosure of the Small Clone. It hardly takes up any space on your pedalboard. Now for the negative... I have read about clipping issues with the Neo Clone, how it slightly distorts your signal. I found this to be the case with my Neo Clone. It's almost a mild overdrive along with the chorused signal most noticeable while playing chords through a loud clean amp like a Twin Reverb. The Small Clone doesn't clip as much as the Neo Clone does, but I doubt it would be much of issue in a live setting. That said, between the Small Clone and the Neo Clone I would choose the Small Clone. I'd only recommend the Neo Clone if you're trying to save pedalboard space, otherwise the reissue Small Clone would do the job.

Great Pedal!
This box is very well built, all metal case, the only plastic is the knob which seems very sturdy as well.I use the pedal w/acoustic guitar and it fills out the tone very nicely. You can also crank the knob and get a very warbly Leslie spkr type of effect. The toggle switch definitely affects the tone as well and you can dial in a lot of nice sounds with this pedal, from slow and full chorus to fast and warbly. I don't feel that it changes my tone when not in use and it works well with my other pedals. It's not as small as some of the micro pedals, but it's pretty small, pretty close to the MXR size pedals. All in all I'm very happy with it and am glad I got it.

Electro Harmonix Neo Clone...
This is supposed to be a "clone" of the small clone circuit, reduced to fit a smaller package. I don't own a small clone, so I can't compare the two, but as a chorus effect, it will give you a very nice, kind of vintage, true bypass chorus effect. I notice a small boost of the signal when is on, and there is a small change of the tone, but no the kind of change that I heard from the infamous nano clone. It is also really picky with the power source, It doesn't like my cheap power supply, but works fine with the PS that comes with my memory boy. I really like the effect, specially when I put it in front of my little big muff, so I give it four stars for the sound, and an extra star for the price. But that's me, if you are looking for a chorus that keep your tone EXACTLY like it is, you may like to look somewhere else, maybe in the high price digital department.

NANO NANO!
Plugged it in and now it is part of my pedal board. Sounds Awsome when clean and cool when dirty when you rill it back. I love the switch option so you can get different tones, very good construction

Lush chorus
Quick review: was very wary about a modulation pedal because haven't been impressed with sonic qualities of my single modulator - the Behringer Ultra Flanger. I don't have golden ears, but the harsh, metallic digital sound of the Ultra Flanger bothers me.Pleased with my purchase of the Neo Clone. From all my research, I knew the Small Clone was the chorus I wanted, but I wanted a smaller footprint, power jack compatible with my 1-Spot; and more pedalboard friendly Neo.Very lush chorus that sounds sweet, full and organic. Pretty much what I was looking for. The toggle lets you go from subtle to prominent. The rate knob takes you from smooth to warbly rotary type speeds. I find that the most useful setting is with the knob at 12:00.Fantastic pedal, no detectable noise.I'd really like to see a dry/wet mix pot for controlling the effect level. My only real complaint, hence only 4 stars.Gear used: Running it at the end of my signal chain just before my delay -- into the front of a Blues Jr. NOS.I've attached a phone pic just to show the Neo Clone size relative to my micro/nano pedals.

Wonderful Chorus Effects Pedal
This little box has a big sound inside! It's the best Chrous pedal I've ever used. It has a wide, deep range of sound, perfect for sound shaping and it's really the last Chorus pedal you would ever need. It's a very sturdy metal Stomp Box. I wouldn't suggest using it wothout shoes, since the switch is a post rather than a broad pedal and will definitely hurt your feet! You can feel the switch being activated, and there's a loud click (don't worry about that though, it doesn't transfer to the amp) so there is no doubt it's been switched on, even when it's set to a very subtle effect. The controls are very simple, but this pedal does so much with those few controls it's unbeleivable! Essentially, if you like Chorus, you need this pedal!

Stunning Sound
Used this with my Bullet Strat and it sounded unbelievable. Build quality is great - sturdy and light. Sound quality is excellent. It's no small clone, but it certainly comes close. Excellent. Definitely has that Kurt Cobain sound to it.
