Paul Sellers made me buy it
Sir Paul says you should buy this hammer. I have no reason to believe he is being paid by Thor to recommend it, but it is a functional soft faced hammer. The faces are replaceable which is good. The problem I have with it is that the handle is too thick really. I find the Stanley with the Amber faces and the hickory handle better. Personal preference though...If aesthetics are important to you I think it looks a bit strange with the plastic/chrome head. The sticker they put on it also comes off.Somebody said in one of these reviews that it can't be real hickory. They are right, it is Ash. But that's nothing to do with why their's broke.

Good, but quality is reflected in the price
I read good reviews of this hammer but was a little disappointed that it feels a little... cheap...First things first - I'm using this with some Norex chisels and it's great for that. Just the right amount of feel, and easy to use. From a quality perspective, though, there's a lot of chrome veneer that I fear will end up breaking away. The Thor branding is a cheap sticker that I've already removed, and the mallet ends seem quite loose fitting. But for the price, it does what it needs to do so maybe my complaints are on me for not looking a little farther afield. For this price it's fine.

Excellent Hammer
This is the first time I bought a deadblow hammer after using normal hammers and rubber mallets. I bought this after servicing a mountain bike air suspension fork which needs you to undo a nut and tap it while it's on the shaft to dislodge the shaft from the base. I used a normal metal hammer and ruined the threads on the shaft as it was too harsh.Did it a second time with this hammer on a new shaft and the way the force acts cleanly and directly is much nicer. Feels lovely to use, and now use it on anything I can even wall plugs.

Useful tool.
I have used Thor mallets for 35 years, but always until now their rawhide and copper faced versions. Having now gone through 3 rawhide heads ( and they are nearly impossible to replace for even a skilled user) I looked to find an equivalent. This soft grey and hard white nylon is perfect. The soft grey head can be hit very firmly against wood without causing any issue. The white is very hard and can be used against metal strikers on chisels and similar tools. The head is well balanced, and the handle which is wood, has a nice feel. I would recommend this. Different hardnesses of heads are available, and I am sure there is one for anything you need to hit.

more resiliant than the rubber coated versions
bought this for work and am not disappointed. Rubber coated versions always seem to split and become useless after a while but this has replaceable plastic screw in faces, though the replacements do seem expensive.Three minor drawbacks are, firstly that the head is quite long, making it slightly unwieldy if space above the target is limited. Secondly the faces have a tendency to unscrew themselves. Finally, the deadness of the blow is not as complete as it seems to be with cheaper rubber coated versions (I put this down to the hardness of the plastic faces).Generally worth the extra if frequent use is required otherwise buy a cheaper rubber coated version.Update 4 june 2015 changed rating to 1 star the cast shaft has fractured and the head fell off. I realise that the item has had frequent use (as a work tool rather than a d.i.y. item), frequently used throughout the day almost daily, but was expecting more from this brand name, after all the god of thunder would have been a bit red faced if his hammer head fell of at the wrong time due to poor quality manufacturing processes!
