No, it is not asymmetrical. It has symmetrical cable for the neck part

Yes, this model suffers from severe "Stethoscope Effect" - very much noticeable whenever connected to your device and you're not playing any music - slightly noticeable while playing music.However the noise is very disturbing (even with your music on) when the cables move near your face or neck.The earphone comes with an adjustable 'cheap' tie that holds the right and left cables together but remember that you cannot move it beyond the microphone to make a tight fit of the cables under your chin to prevent dangling.

Q: Sennheiser has not recommended it for an iPhone. Does it work with iPhone?

Works well with iPhone, answering calls and play/pause/next/previous song playing.
