Primary Mathematics 2B Home Instructor's Guide

Saves hours of preparation time!
This is my third year of teaching Singapore mathematics in a small school setting, and wow! - what a difference it makes to have the 2B Home Instructor's Guide! Initially, I thought a guide wouldn't be necessary. It didn't seem as though an answer key would be that helpful for elementary school math, but this guide is much more than an answer key. So far I have used it for help in planning ways to demonstrate or teach certain concepts. It suggests specific activities that can be used for instructor demonstration or as games or hands-on activities for the learners. The guide makes it easy to choose the best manipulatives to illustrate each concept. Even though I thought I could figure all this out easily enough on my own, I have found that the guide makes teaching Singapore math easier and more effective.

Not as well-crafted as Cavendish Marshall Editions
As much as I've been confused about their many typos, I still think it's an invaluable source. When we started Singapore Math 2-3 years ago, I had no idea I needed the HIG. Very thankful it exists. It lays out the lesson plan (for you to explain the lesson and use purchased manipulatives or your own make-shift ones) so that then you can reinforce said lesson with the Lesson Book and then the Work Book should be a natural and easy follow-up for the child to work on her own. Without the HIG, the Lesson Book makes no sense and much more difficult to improvise. We had the Marshall-Cavendish for Primary 1A and 1B. I prefer their style and order. This editor has tried to replicate it but it doesn't have the same feel. I don't think it's noticeable unless you've used the previous edition. Not sure why the change. Beware, there are a few grammatical typos and answer key mistakes. I still recommend it though, for lack of another option.

THIS DOES NOT CORRESPOND TO THE 2b WORKBOOK OR TEXTBOOK!!!
This is supposed to be a teachers guide for level 2b......this DOES NOT CORRESPOND to 2b workbook or textbook! Selling this book as a 2b teachers guide is completely false advertising!

Singapore Math
Yes, you really do need the home instructors guide, too. I tried to do without for a bit, and it really didn't work all that well. It includes a timeline for how fast you should go. Also it has tips about how to do fun games or teach bits that just aren't grasped easily. Generally, I don't need the answer key, and occationally it is wrong anyhow, but generally a good book for a good system of covering the basics well for homeschooled kids.

This is a great supplement to provide pacing as well as mental math ...
I am a math teacher who is currently homeschooling her children and teaching many others in the area of mathematics. This is a great supplement to provide pacing as well as mental math practice problems at the end of the book.

Ordered 2B. Cover says 2B. Entire inside is 2A!!!
Has this happened to anyone else? We just could not get this to work... and quickly found out WHY! Although it says "2B" on the outside cover, inside, in the first few introductory pages, it says that it works well to supplement the "2A" curriculum. So, we have a 2A guide, with 2B outside cover. We have already completed 2A, and thought we were purchasing 2B. UGH, so frustrating, because it holds us up in our forward progress! Also, I have some concerns regarding other comments here. That is is "okay" to have numerous discrepancies and errors and typos. It is not!

A must with Singapore Math
I couldn't teach Singapore math effectively without this guide. I need to read it thoroughly in order to instruct effectively, but the lessons are short and filled with additional hands on activities.
