An economical way to revitalize older flashlights.
These are only 30 lumens, and I believe the rating is pretty accurate. These are designed for an 2-cell flashlight (AA, C, or D) that uses a PR-style bulb. They will not compare in any real way to a modern tactical light, or even newer generation LED lights from Mag-lite or other brands. However, they will make older lights much more useful. I have been replacing blown bulbs in several lights, mostly industrial (yellow and black plastic) lights that are for work or emergency purposes. These are great for that, since they are a direct replacement, and require no modifications. The emitter is also well-placed for these lights, and works well with the reflectors, providing a soft center-spot with decent spill. These are perfect for those style lights, or any older incandescent 2-cell lights. Since they are more efficient, batteries will last longer. Some tips: If the light will be used occasionally - such as an emergency light, I would go with Energizer lithium batteries, in C or D-cell adapters if needed, since they last a long time, and have a very good shelf life. They also don't leak. That way, if the lights go out, you will have a reliable emergency light ready-to-go for years. These also seem to work well with Carbon-Zinc batteries, which are inexpensive, but don't last as long. Alkaline batteries of course will work, but they will leak if left unattended, so use them for daily (or nightly) duty, and check them often. These are a great solution for work lights, since they are not too bright to cause eye strain, and would be great for plumbers, mechanics, or anyone else who needs to see well at arm's reach. Color rendering is pretty good, but not quite a good as incandescent. They have somewhat decent throw in an old Mag-lite, but I would go with something more powerful if a long-range beam is needed.

Nice, Bright Replacement Bulb for Two AA Flashlights
Really pleased with these bulbs. I got 3 (having not seen that I could have gotten 5 for just a dollar more). Anyway, all three work and have a similar pattern - nothing out of focus or dark in the center, etc. It has a whiter light than the original incandescent bulb which is what I expected. I'm not sure how well I captured things in the attached photo's - it is just plain hard to take a good picture of lights. One is a side by side comparison - I have two of these old two AA battery flashlights. The original bulb is on the left, this new LED bulb is on the right. You can see how much whiter the light is with this bulb - both on the wall and looking at the flashlight itself. The other two show the old and the new shining on a wall. Similar pattern with the distinct outer ring and the brighter inner area. Really pleased with these LED replacement bulbs. They should last forever really, they should be easier on batteries, and I *think* they will take the impact of a fall better should you happen to drop the flashlight.

MX-991/U Compatible
Works to replace the old bulbs used for the old US Military Flashlights. Not very bright though, so it's better for low light needs.

Works OK only when the batteries are fresh at 3V, dims quickly when the voltage drops just a little.
The bulb only works OK when the batteries are fresh. At 3V, the bulb draws 0.1A, so 0.3W as advertised. The bulb is not too bright; the stated 30 Lumens is probably in the ball park. However, the bulb dims quickly when the battery drains. At 2.6V (1.3V per cell) which the alkaline battery still has over 50% capacity, it only draws 0.007A and is too dim to be usable. And rechargeable batteries do not work. NiMH is nominally 1.2V per cell; with 2 cell at 2.4V, the bulb does not even turn on at all. The Lithium Ion battery voltage is too high for this bulb. A better replacement bulb should have some electronics to regulate the voltage. So forget about reusing the old flashlight; it's not worth it. Just get a LED flashlight, which is cheaper than a replacement bulb.

Good LED upgrade
After having had little success getting a drop-in replacement to replace the old incandescent bulbs for an old 3D cell Mag Light and an old cheap plastic 2D cell flashlight. I took a chance with these bulbs. The LED 3-volt upgrade bulbs I purchased before these have had a greenish tinge. Although better than the krypton bulbs, with a brighter, better light spread, I hated that greenish color. I kept sending them back and finally gave up and settled for the one with the least green. I gave this a final shot and wow, fits easily and produces a nearly all-white light. If you look closely, there is a very minimal greenish color at the center of the beam but for me, it's quite acceptable. These are not super beams that project and light up a football field. Not so brilliant that it hurts the eyes. It simply upgrades an old standard flashlight, even a Maglite, and gives more usable white light and life to old flashlights.

Upgrade for a military style angle head 2 D cell flashlight.
Like a few other reviewers of these bulbs, I ordered these to upgrade my military style flashlight. What I found with the bulbs I received, was that compared to the original krypton bulbs, these were whiter but not necessarily brighter. In other words, the beam was more white versus yellow in color, but didn't seem to illuminate any better or further. It was kinda the same power but different color. With that being said, I feel these bulbs did what I bought them for. Being LED, the life of the bulb is much longer than incandescent bulbs. Once installed, I may never have to replace this bulb. Also, the battery life is possibly tripled or quadrupled because these use less energy than incandescent bulbs. And last but not least, I actually like that these are not extremely brighter than the original bulbs... it keeps that original retro nostalgic feeling going without burning through bulbs and batteries. I'm happy with these bulbs.

LED replacement flashlight bulbs- worth it?
I ordered these replacement bulbs thinking, like LED replacements for home lighting, they would be far brighter, take less energy to operate (thereby extending battery life), and last much longer than their incandescent predecessors. Ordering was easy, delivery was fast, and the bulbs readily replaced those in my battery flashlights. However, they proved to be no brighter or throw a larger swath of light than the bulbs I was replacing, so I returned them (which, thankfully, was also fast and easy). I cannot speak with any knowledge to longevity or how these may allow batteries to last longer, since they were only in use for a few minutes. Seller should show comparative pictures of the same flashlight with an incandescent and LED bulb to highlight any difference a buyer can expect. A better choice is to look for inexpensive tactical LED flashlights, like the ones I ultimately purchased from a local hardware store (initials HF). They give off WAY more light than my old incandescent flashlights, are a more compact form factor, and include a handy 'zoom' feature which allows the user to concentrate light into a narrower or wider beam as needed. I would buy from this seller again, but not these bulbs.

nice upgrade for old incandescent flashlight bulbs

Great replacement bulb.
I ordered these bulbs because their dimensions seemed similar to the old burnt out bulb. When they arrived they were an exact fit, made my old flashlight brighter and I suspect will draw less power from the batteries. Compare the dimensions of the old bulb carefully and if they match I recommend buying them as a replacement.
