Codex Sinaiticus: The H. T. Anderson New Testament

Very interesting text, a lot of information.

English translation of the oldest Bible in existence so it's pretty cool

This copy of the Codex was well worth the money I spent.

This is a great piece to have in your library to compare and contrast with your working bible. I find it very interesting to see how man has evolved and interpreted god's word over the centuries. I find it very important to get as close to the source as possible to ensure that purity is maintained. I also find it a great opportunity to revisit many passages and encourages critical thinking about the bible. My only comment is that I wish this was better indexed by book I ended up indexing it with 3M note tabs myself and increases the functionality quite a bit.

Nice for my collection

For believers and/or history enthusiasts, this is such an awesome collection of gnostic writings and an intriguing version of the new testament.Loved it!!!!!Wished that I could have gotten it in a leather-bound or in hard case, but I might just pay someone to modify my paperback.

Bought two different copies before looking further and finding that this is a good Greek translation, but the claim that is was translated from the Codex Sinaiticus cannot posibly be true. Editor's Preface states that Anderson started his translation from the Greek in 1861. Tischendorf, who found the Codex Sinaiticus, was still working on the Greek facsimile at the time, releasing his copy in Greek only in October of 1862 to the Russian Empire in an extremely limited and partial way. The first complete English translation ever published of the Codex Sinaiticus was released in 1911 and not by Anderson, who died in 1872. I also found, in reference to Anderson's work, that "This purports to be an English version of Codex Sinaiticus, but in fact it is a revision of Anderson’s earlier translation of the New Testament, with alterations according to some of the readings of Codex Sinaiticus." ([...]). The key word here is "some." One can find various pieces of the real Codex on-line and in other works comparing verses, etc., which do not appear in this translation. I would have said nothing had the three modern editors "patched up" this version accurately, but that was never completely done. In my opinion and that of others as referenced, calling this the "Codex Sinaiticus" is very misleading and not an accurate or deserved title. If you want a good Greek translation, this is fine -- otherwise, serious researchers beware.

As an open minded committed christian, it is an important enhancement to both my biblical studies and bible devotions. To know that Codex Sinaiticus is considered to be the oldest bible in existence (340 -- 350 AD) and therefore represents the nearest we can get to the original texts, without later additions of scribes and copyists, does not detract from the spiritual integrity of the received bible translations in existence today. Christianity has always believed the Bible as God's revelation. Understanding revelation as biblical formation from a variety of ancient sources, does not in any way detract for me my biblical devotion and thanksgiving.

A rare find and highly interesting for any reader. The item arrived early and the quality is great :) The book contains parts about its history as well as the actual text.
