Neither. They don’t open or close. They are a filter that allows air in when you breath but not when you breath out.

How often do the filters need to be changed?

I change mine about every 5-7 days depending how much use

This mask is much better for me than the cloth masks. With normal breathing, my glasses don’t fog up. With harder breathing glasses fog a bit
