When The Past Gets In Our Way
Delightful story of love, living and learning. Wonderful plot, great characters...that look really familiar to me, and witty dialogue. All that I want in a cosy romance.

Loved it way more than I anticipated
After reading Parental Guidance, which I liked but didn't love, I entered this book hesitantly. Within two chapters, any doubts I had about this book were erased, and I found myself inhaling every interaction and thought brought about by Tess and Cole. Most of the time, an awkward heroine is cute but annoying, and it gets old about halfway through the book. For some reason though, Avery Flynn NAILED it with Tess. She was quirky, but relatable, and definitely 100% loveable and hilarious. Cole wasn't patronizing, or rude, and I found myself loving his internal monologue almost as much as I loved Tess's.This book had everything, from laughs and hilarious situations, to heartwarming and tender moments that even had me tearing up by the end. This book was sweet, lovely, and exactly what I needed. All of my faith in Avery Flynn was restored with this cute story between Tess and Cole, and it makes me that much more excited for book 3.

If you like your romance with a side of comedy and feelings this is the book for you 😉.
Awk-Weird was so good! A one night stand at a friends wedding turns into an unexpected pregnancy. Tess is completely willing to do everything on her own and I loved her for that (single moms are amazing!). Cole is admittedly shocked but completely willing to help in anyway that Tess will let him. Then one thing leads to another and they end up temporarily living together. Which then leads to feelings and a glimpse at what their forever could be. And of course they both screw it all up before finding what works for them. Honestly, if you like your romance with a side of comedy and feelings this is the book for you 😉.One minute this book had me laughing hysterically and the next it was like a black hole had opened in my chest. I had to take a break during a couple of the fights Tess and Cole had, but I honestly really loved these two idiots. They had some mutual pining going on and neither wanted to act on it for fear of change in their otherwise stable lives. And that’s relatable...but change is inevitable. Also? Cole, a professional hockey player, being a stress baker was infinitely hilarious for some reason 😂.I don’t have much negative to say about this book besides wanting it to be longer. And maybe wanting a little more hockey, since this is a hockey romance after all 😉. I would have loved more time with Tess and Cole just doing things like going to doctors appointments, hockey games and trivia nights. But isn’t that the way most bookworms are?I’m so glad that I finally got to this book. I’m giving this a solid five stars. It’s hysterical, it’s awkward, and it’s emotional. And I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!

I adore Tess!
I was pretty sold on this book when I read the dedication. I couldn't agree more, normal is highly overrated.Awk-Weird is the second book in the Ice Knights series, and after reading all of them I'd say it's my favorite. I absolutely loved Tess. I thought her factoids were adorable, I love that she developed a strong family in her girls. I liked Cole as a hero. I love that he was a Thor lookalike. And I loved the way he wanted to protect Tess and the baby above anything. Also him with Khan was definitely a swoon moment for me. What I didn't love about this book was all of the non communication. So many times when Marti was brought up and they both backed out of the conversation. And they both just wanted to be with the other so bad, but had it in their heads that the other couldn't possibly have the same feelings. I just wanted to scream at them. I know it's a thing in romance novels but since it is a short book, I feel like I could have done without it. Other than that I loved this book. It was funny, steamy, and adorable. I was rooting for the MC from page one.

Loved It!
Avery Flynn's Awk-Wierd is another delightful book centered around The Ice Knights Hockey Team. Tess is one of four close friends : Tess, Gina, Fallon, Lucy. Tess is the quiet reserved one of the group. She's shy, and solitary. Tess has watched as each of her friends have found relationships and love. In fact Tess is at Lucy's wedding, trying to be unobtrusive, when she hears a group of hockey players playing a trivia game.. Now Tess is the queen of trivia. She collects random facts like most people collect rare coins. Among the trivia players is Cole Phillips who she secretly calls Thor. Cole is also a trivia buff, and when he notices Tess quietly answering all the question Cole hijacks her to help him play. There is a bet that whoever loses must buy drinks for the entire weekend. The other players were all younger and less well paid players on the team. Cole, on the other hand is a very well paid, star player. Tess convinces Cole to lose the game. He agrees, but insists that Tess help him leave the reception. She agrees, and somehow she and Cole end up in bed. The next morning, Tess is horrified, because this is so out of character for her. Tess finds a surprise waiting for her in a few weeks time. She has to find a way to inform Cole of the consequences of their one night together!I absolutely loved this book. Both Cole and Tess have major issues. Tess's mom would leave her with various friends and family when she was growing up, so Tess never felt wanted anywhere and never had a sense of home. Cole's dad was in construction, and they moved from job to job. so he was always being uprooted. Cole's way of coping was by being very structured, a place for everything , always doing things the same. Thus being able to control things. Tess spouted off random facts when she felt uncomfortable, and she was so not a control freak. Their story is so funny and touching. Tess, believing that nothing ever lasts, and Cole not recognizing what's right in front of him. I found myself laughing and tearing up over these two, and I think that you will too.

This book has become one of my new favourites, it's that good!
I absolutely LOVED this book!I stumbled upon this book as an ad and was seriously intrigued by the cover alone. I immediately went to find this book on my Kindle and was pleasantly surprised to find the book I didn't realize I needed. I relate to Tess on a huge level, and loved how realistic of a character she was and could easily imagine myself as Tess, in this story. I can totally relate to the weird facts she would randomly spew out in the most hilarious ways, it just made the story that much more enjoyable.Cole's character was a perfect opposite for Tess and made the interactions between them hilarious and heartwarming. I loved how they accidentally came together, not realizing how they were perfect for each other in every sense. There are so many things that are revealed about Cole, that you would never have guessed based on Tess' initial assessment of him, and it adds a refreshing aspect into the storyline and the interactions of the characters.I literally just couldn't put the book down! It was so captivating, that I read the whole thing in one sitting and went to bed later than I should have, but don't regret! Flynn's book is the one you didn't know you needed!

5 Awk-weird Stars
Awk-weird is the first book I have read by Avery Flynn and it definitely wont be my last.I really enjoyed getting to know Tess and Cole. Cole was stubborn and hates change. His routines keep him centered and have gotten him to where he is today with his life and his career in the Ice Knights hockey team."It was as if absolute joy and terror had shoved aside his well-ordered routine and declared a new sheriff was in town."Tess is nerdy, weird and sweet as can be. But she has some series hang ups from her childhood that seems to have followed her into adulthood. Will she let them stop her from being happy?!“Change is hard,” she said, needing to break the silence that had fallen between them. Cole looked up at her, an intensity in his blue eyes that nearly jolted her. “I’m learning that sometimes it’s worth it, though.”Awk-weird was the perfect romcom, it had me laughing out load and also at times it had me shedding a tear. It had some amazing secondary characters and this also makes a book great for me. A perfect holiday read if you need something to dive into over the Christmas holidays.

Wished it wouldnt end!!!!
What a beautiful believable couple. Tess and Cole from the first page were so gorgeous together. Wished the book never ended. They were perfect. Except for the sleeping together when she thought he loved someone else but hay it is not real life and they had to have some drama as thats how the books go. But this would of been a great story without any drama at all.But one question were was Caleb??? First book was about him, this book everyone else was in it except Caleb.

Great story and characters
I've read a lot of Avery Flynn books and this is one of my more favorite ones. I love the main character and her romantic interest and the plot is perfectly paced with lots of great humor and quirkiness. Would definitely recommend.

Awk-weird
Got to say i was pleasantly surprised. I've been putting this one off because i hate the cartoon cover, but it was a good story. After the fade to black first chapter i was worried it was a clean read, but it had a good level of steam. Bit over long and repetitive on the internal monologues but it overall a good read.
