Good tool
Got my new gouge today,it definitely needed to be sharpened before using. So after sharpening I used it on a very dry walnut burl bowl blank. It held the edge very well, I only sharpened it one more time before finishing the outside of the bowl, which matched my more expensive cryogenic treated gouge. I have noticed that when sharpening it is easier to overheat the edge then my other way more expensive gouges, but just go slower and it works well. I feel that this is a very excellent deal and expect to purchase more of these.

I bought this to try out a new grind and like it so much I bought 2 more
Like the title says I bought it to try out a new grind. It held an edge well and I ended up really liking it, so I bought 2 more to use for different grinds. For the price it's a great deal. I searched around for a while and couldn't find a better price. Very happy with the purchase.

Will do the job.
An acceptable bowl gouge that will do the job. The quality of manufacture isn't up to that of Sorby, Crown, or Taylor tools, but if you keep it sharp it works quite well. I bought it to learn to do a 40/40 grind without sacrificing an expensive tool and have been pleased with the results.

Larger diameter heavier gouge is easier to use.
I have a 1/2 inch bowl gouge that works well, but moving to a larger heavier tool is noticably easier to control and make cleaner cuts. There is great value in this tool. It holds an edge as well as my other gouges if not better. For the price, I am very happy with it.

Good tool
Good tool just not what I hoped for. Didn’t do what I wanted ,but it could be my inexperience with gouges at this point of my wood turning.

Does the job for a beginner's gouge (55 deg. bevel) and sturdy
Did not want to splurge a couple hundred bucks for a premium gouge until I have mastered bowl turning, and decided on a favorite grind profile, so I opted for a middle of the pack version. Bowl gouge comes with a 55 degree factory grind, which I find a little bit too steep for my stance/height to ride the bevel comfortably.. (I since found info that most all new gouges have a factory grind with the expectation that the owner will grind in their own profile) - Sooo.. Im glad I got a cheaper one that I can also practice profiling and sharpening on as well as mastering the cuts and turning bowls.. It does the job very nicely, holds its edge well, and has enough heft and size to handle everything so far. I was initially gonna give it 4 stars but after thinking about it, it is just absolutely perfect for a newbie to practice on and get started, so.. 5 stars!

It doesn't hold an edge as well as more expensive tools, but well worth the price you pay.
This is a great tool for a beginner. It's reasonably priced and has a full sized handle for better control. I picked this one so I could practice sharpening on a grinder without having to worry about destroying a $100 tool.

Very nice bowl gouge
About a year ago I saw this 5/8 bowl gouge made from M2 high speed tool steel at a price that was less than half of most of my other turning tools. I figured it was well worth trying and I have worked with M2 HSS, so I knew it to be a good choice for turning tools. I have turned quite a few bowls with it and it has been my favorite bowl gouge. I recently bough a second through Amazon exactly like the first. I will keep one sharpened with a long grind for starting a bowl and the other with a short grind for finishing the bottom. This gouge holds an edge as well as a more expensive tool
