Nice Functional...only had a 2 year life span
Update it broke the main bar support underneath only made it 2 yrs...plus it shifted my mattress constantly annoying...Still works but for someone who uses it under the support weight I'm disappointed I'm old & live with a bad back condition that often leaves me bedridden I like the bed rail do not get me wrong especially the little outside pockets but you have to be very careful because the pens that line up to lock it in is rather fragile I'm in a new home & the lock pins are rusted so I don't lower it I just keep it up all the time...the neat thing about this item is it does have a button to where you can extend it out way past your knees because often I have to sleep on my left side I use it to prop myself up with the only thing that I do not like about it is it makes my queen size mattress shift it always manages to scoot the top of the mattress from the headboard I'm old and frail I can't push it back so my husband with bad back & bad knees we constantly now have to adjust the mattress because when we inserted & put it together the bars underneath were not flat that's why it shifts the diameter of the bars that go between bed & mattress are big solid round rods....even though it had a lock in strap it's still shifts my queen mattress that can be rather annoying when you are bedridden...overall it's a good bed rail much better than anything else that I was able to find and it also has pockets on the inside I don't recommend removing the cover it's well made & functional I put my things in the pockets it holds my ChapStick snacks glasses cell phones little rags socks tissues flash light etc....the cover for it is brilliant well-made and it has yet to rip or tear or give me any grief I highly recommend it but with this you will have to shift your mattress around and I do have concerns about the rubbing of the box spring that it sits on it will make your mattress slide....I usually can go about 3 days and then I have to adjust the bed because I'm up and down or I am in it all the time but other than that it's holding up I'm rather heavy when I put all my weight on it it's very sturdy & helps me to stay put at night...it helps me to get up as I grab it to get myself straight up out of bed as I said before I have a very bad back if you need a bed rail to prop yourself on during sleep then this is the one that I would recommend when I have to sleep on my right side I put a pillow in front of my chest then I can rest my hand on top of the pillow & rail..when I sleep on my left side I put my orthopedic pillow that's fitted to my body up against the railing and then I put a soft pillow for my lumbar I'm a hefty kind of gal I got a couple pounds on me that I rather not say but let's just say that this thing can take a lot of wear & tear hold up to 300 lbs especially with me getting up down or putting all my weight on it at night when I have to lay on my bad side because of my back condition...I can't always sleep on my right side sometimes I have to sleep on my left side luckily because of the bar I'm able to sleep on my left side because it holds the pillows in that support me during sleep again the only gripe I have is that it will make your mattress shift...I have to push it in front forward and then I have to get my husband to go to the end of the bed and shove it Forward I didn't know that when I purchased this but it was not a deal breaker because it was something that I needed since I have become quite elderly infirmed and often bedridden it is good & sturdy I don't recommend laying it down...Unless you're still in good health & you don't need balance but the thing that worries me & why I don't lower mine during the day 1st the design flaw is when you lower it every thing falls out the pockets....it's because those little pins they have to line up and if they don't line up you could very well break them off...so in order to avoid that I would recommend also to keep the bed railing up at all times it is a good product it's well made I'm kind of glad that I got it it was expensive but trust me I've get good use out of it as I write this right now I am leaning on it for support...But it won't last long as it's portrayed as medical grade ITS NOT! I paid over $100 for this & I guess I got 2 yrs out of it sadly disappointed...

He says five stars!
This is not the least expensive bed rail on Amazon. That’s probably because it’s built so well. We chose this one because it’s tall enough and we have a 14 inch mattress. The bars that slide between the mattress and boxspring are round, but he can’t feel them when he’s laying on the bed.We haven’t been able to really tie it to the bed because I can’t unclip the straps. The clip is really not functional. That is probably the only criticism I can leave. We needed something strong enough so that a 230 pound man wouldn’t fall out of bed. He has REM sleep disturbance and can literally throw himself out of bed. The physics of this bed rail are genius in keeping him on the mattress because his weight holds the rail in place. He says he even leans against it during the night. He doesn’t worry anymore about hurting himself during the night, and either do I. It’s such a comfort to know he’ll sleep safely, we’re both more rested in the morning. No more crashing that wakes us both up in the middle of the night, no more bruises and broken side tables. He also uses it to steady himself when getting up.So even if it isn’t the least expensive bed rail, the construction is sturdy; it’s very worth the money.

Great for dementia patients
Works great and easy to install, we use it for my father in law with dementia who was getting out of bed every night and sometimes falling, he has not gotten out once since we got this, he can’t figure out how to get out of bed with it there, it’s been a lifesaver and helped ease our minds at night time.

Helps a person pull themself into a sitting position in bed.
I bought this for my Mom who couldn’t lift herself up into a sitting position in bed. It is remarkable. Her quality of life was improved a lot not to mention my aching back.

Great
My mother has dementia so we use this to keep her from getting out her bed on her own to reduce potential falls. So far, so good.
